Why would they need a hoop for a small beginner piece of fabric? I think that teaching the basics and letting them get the feel of the fabric and the floss. Teaching to start clean and keep it clean, count carefully, and enjoy what you're doing...a hoop would just be a distraction. Keep that back for the kids who want to go on to bigger stuff. :) just ensure they have choice of a pattern they enjoy, a piece of fabric they like--why not colors, and a space that's comfortable for them. :)
