I'm just finishing this project. The chart is in black and white. What I have done in the past is to use colored pencils to color in a chart. However this project has many, many colors of red which are very close to the same color. So - unless you have a large accumulation of colored pencils of many shades would be very hard to do. An option might be for color red 814 use orange, for color red 815 use pink, etc. That way you can see where the various colors belong which might make it easier. One trick I used was to use a colored felt pen for the various beads. It made them stand out and showed me where I needed to leave a space. When I work on a chart that is this complicated, I simply use a pencil and color in each area as I stitch it. Let's me know what ground I've covered and where I need to go next!

You will probably find that most patterns are printed in black and white instead of color due to printing costs. I use a yellow highlighter to mark all of one symbol that I am going to stitch. Then as I stitch, I mark them off in a darker color highlighter (I use a green one). This makes it easier for me to see where I am going to stitch and what is done. Hope this helps. It does for me.

Mine is black and white. I use a highlighter as I go.
Do you happen to have directions for the chart?
In fact did directions come with it?
What is candle tips 284Z?
Thanks,

I'm working this pattern and it is so easy to stitch. It was meant to be a present but I like the colors so much that I might just keep it - only kidding. My pattern is a tannish/yellowish color and the symbols are black. My daughter made copies at one of the office stores and enlarged the pattern as well. I always make copies because I don't want to mark on the original. DMC 284Z is a metallic fiber. Two stitchers just commented that it is not the best product to use. You can substitute with DMC 3852 - one strand. They also mentiond that Rainbow Gallery offers a Petite Treasure Braid. Just read through the various posts and you'll gain a wealth of information. So many knowledgeable stitchers contribute their invaluable advice.
