I have never seen that picture before. Looks like a pattern you could customize to your liking, at least the outlined image. Of course, any pattern can be changed to suit personal tastes. Please post a picture when you finish it, would love to see it.

Is there some kind of story behind this picture? The background reminds me of some Indian designs...please forgive my ignorance! :)

Vcess, yes it does have a Northwest Indian (Native American) heritage. It's an Orca Whale, also known as a Killer Whale. I live in Washington State, Puget Sound area. I'm always seeing them on the local newscast. The Orca whales migrate from the southern ocean areas all the way to Alaska in the spring. They go past us again in the fall. We even have some resident Orcas in the Puget Sound area. It's always big news when a new baby Orca is born or one dies. They are a big part of the native American's culture here.

Thanks for the info! I intend to take a look at these patterns...native American culture has always fascinated me...admire the respect for the power of nature and their artistic interpretations used in every facet of their lives.

I am getting closer to finishing this piece. My son lives in West Seattle and closely follows the three local Orca pods.

I have finished the Orca and the water. I am starting on the Orca symbol now.

I planned on giving this as a Christmas present, but life got in the way. As soon as it is done and framed it will be on its way.
