Magnifying glasses +6.00
I just received magnifying reading glasses +6.00 from Miles Kimblall, and they are great! I have been using +4.00 for my needlework, but these are even better.

I know we are not supposed to push any company's products here at this blog, but a while ago, it was discussed about finding higher magnifying glasses. I've been looking for greater reading glasses and finally found them, so I just wanted to pass this along.

Now my stitching should be even easier to see :-)

ADELE -- I may have started that chat. I was irritated by members posting notices that a particular product could be purchased elsewhere for a lower price. For example, everyone knows that Michael's or Joann's often has DMC floss three or four skeins for $1.00. Other sites may sell a certain pattern or fabric at a lower price. Another site might have a great sale.

My opinion is that ECS provides this ChitChat to us chatters at no cost. They don't limit us if we purchase something or not. We should not be directing people to another site where a specific item is available at a lower cost.

It is fine with me if you want to recommend a site that does not carry a specific item like your magnifier glasses. Or, it is okay if you recommend an item (e.g. thread heaven) that ECS does sell but not mention the fact that it was purchased elsewhere.

THIS IS MY OPINION -- Please don't report me to the Crpss Sitch Police. For new members: the Cross Stitch Police is a fictional organizer that I have made up.

I don't know...I live for a good sale!!! :) I think most of us do! And I don't think that the good and generous folk at ECS begrudge us special savings at other sites...it's promoting the craft and I might "stray", but they are going to get the biggest part of my stitching allowance...and my loyalty. :) Promoting the business is why we're invited here...and we all do our part...we extol their business virtues to the skies and heartily recommend their employees. Just because someone mentions a sale or better price, it isn't bad manners or disloyalty--it's called "business". If they were worried about patrons never returning, they would offer to meet sale prices...when they could... :)

OK, I'm ready for my tarring and feathering...let it commence! I've always looked good in feathers... :)

Adele, so happy you found what you needed! I've made a note for when mine need replacing! Thanks! :)

VCESS...didn't the Vaudeville dancers with the big fans made out of feathers also.look good in feathers, like you.....until they fan danced their way out of the feathers into (heavens to Murgatroyd) a mostly nude state?

Nancye....I think ECS loves us loyalists, but it is great that, if we cannot find an item here or in other places, it seems reasonable to let each other know when we locate something rare,.like 6+ glasses or floss laying tools. I too am so grateful.for this chat and the knowledge and fun that it gives me. My life is not all dull,.but this is indeed a high point.

I haven't seen a post lately saying "you can find it cheaper at __________"
I have seen a lot of misinformation given again, but you know, I kinda missed getting upset with her.

I think you all understood what I was trying to say and are in agreement. Don't recommend other sites for products that are available at Everything Cross Stitch.

I notice that Kristi often directs posters to other sites when a particular product is unavailable at ECS. That is good business

FYI, ECS is my only source for needlework supplies. I only buy at a local shops or other online places when I can't find it here. And mostly what I buy elsewhere is for my hardanger. I've gotten some hardanger material here, but ESC doesn't carry the No. 5, 8, and 12 weight threads that hardanger needs. If they did, this would be my place to shop because I love ESC's service. And my intent to tell the blog about the reading glasses was not to undermine ECS. I discovered ECS two-three years ago and am very happy that I did. Adele

Su Pitt, trust me! I look better IN the feathers...dancing out of them would be a bizarre site, indeed! LOL.

As for the other, I have a real problem with anyone telling people what they can or cannot say on here...I have no problem with addressing issues of bad manners, though. :) ECS doesn't limit topics..."E" is for "everything"...about the only thing they have objected to was malice and stupidity...Though they seem to take silliness in stride. :)

NancyE, I meant nothing by my post...It's what I was thinking...wasn't looking to criticize or defame...just a different opinion. :) Your reply seemed a tad...crisp. Did I read too much into it? Sometimes I don't make myself clear...trying to be brief...yeah, brief.... :) Don't like misunderstandings when they can be avoided. :)

Let's keep it real here! LOL
I love ECS and order 99% of my supplies from them but I don't feel that I owe them any kind of loyalty despite their excellent customer service, etc. No business offers everything and they know that. Yes, they offer us the opportunity to chat but I have read that others do too. I don't know because this is the only one I participate in. I buy from ECS because I love their website, it is super easy to navigate, they offer a huge selection, have outstanding customer service and they must keep their warehouse, etc very clean because my allergies never act up when I unpack my goodies. The orders are always neatly packaged. I appreciate that. I have ordered a kit, yes, a kit, from another company last year because I could not find it on ECS. Although, I discovered later on that they did stock it. I got it $10 cheaper at the other place but it took two weeks to arrive. I do not shop around because I don't have the time and dislike waiting for the item if I want or need it. ECS you'll always have my business but I won't feel guilty if I buy somewhere else for whatever reason occasionally.
Adele, you get a gold star!
VCESS, you just barely escaped your punishment.
Nancye, lighten up, you stress too much. LOL

VCESS -- absolutely did not take offence at your comments. I apologize if I sounded terse. Maybe it was the moment.

TEXAS -- you are correct -- I need to lighten up a little. Really it really isn't be -- it's the people around me who try to push my buttons. Sometimes I wish I could put up an invisible wall around me and keep certain people and issues from penetrating into my space.

You guys are better than therapy. Cheaper too. LOLOLOLO

I'm off to volunteer at the local Food Pantry this morning. I am frequently shocked at what some people donate. Food with expiration dates, bags of chips that are open and half-eaten, ice cream cones -- no ice cream. We can't give away cans that are badly dented. We can't give away stuff with old expiration dates. I'm not talking about stuff that is two or three months past the expiration date. I am talking years A few months ago there was a box of something with a label that said "best Used by October 20, 1985." Yes, 31 years old. YUCK!

Nancye, I had to sign on to forward a mail and read your post. Couldn't help but reply even though I have tons of stuff to do.
First of all let me comment you for being such a good person to do so much volunteer work. Like you, I am appalled at what people donate. It's no different with clothing, etc. They use these venues to dump their garbage practically. I had a very disheartening experience at a Goodwill store once. DD and I dropped off hundreds of CDs and the guy that worked there said that he really needed money, could we just put the CDs in his car and he would take them to a half price store. His logic was that we would still be "doing good". He even offered us a receipt. Of course we declined but it only goes to show how people operate. I make charitable donations all the time but wonder how much gets to the people that it's designed for. Repeatedly, you read and see reports how the ones that run these organizations live it up by taking expensive vacations, drawing huge salaries, having parties, etc. How do these people reconcile this behavior with their consciences? Now, before I donate, I research the organization on the internet. I really don't have the time but I don't want just a tax write off. I want to help.
Have a wonderful day and continue the good work! Wear an imaginary necklace made of garlic to ward off those emotional vampires! LOL I know people like that and slowly try to distance myself. Don't let them push your buttons.
PS The 31 year old can was probably a leftover from an estate sale. :)

Who could take offense at VCESS's comments? I wish that a possessed just a tiny part of her wit. LOL

Texas Stitcher...what you said really rang a bell with me. We were travelling through West Virginia and came across a grand old antique shop which was actually in an "antique" house complete with a huge front porch, gingerbread work around it, etc. Anyway, we were talking to the lady who owned it and somehow the subject of Good Will Industries came up. She "got a bee in her bonnet" and told me that before she owned this shop she dropped off two old hand made quilts to Good Will that someone gave her. They were good size quilts as I recall. When she walked in, the women who worked there saw them, one said to the other "Well, you keep the blue one and I'll keep the pink one". This women was L-I-V-I-D. She said "Over my dead body". She took the quilts, walked out and has never been back. So....after much reflection when it comes to giving...I do it locally. I either call our church office or our local Salvation Army just before a holiday and say what do you REALLY REALLY need. I just follow their lead and do what I can. For me, it is so much more rewarding because I know for sure that I am helping local folks.
P.S. In defense of Good Will, I am sure there are honorable facilities throughout our country. I am just an old skeptic now.
