What is "squall" linen?
Is the background stitched or is it "dyed"
Is 5.2" x 3.9" the size of the image?

Hello,
The 5.2" x 3.9" size that is listed in the size the design will be when it's stitched and completed. The 28ct. hand dyed "Squall" linen is a dyed fabric so the background will be a white to light blue color. We do not sell this specific fabric on our website but when I did a google search for 28ct. Squall Linen here is what came up for it:

Just for your info, if you contact Crossed Wings by email, they will be happy to dye any count or type of fabric. It takez them one to two months, as there is only two of them, a husband and wife...some of the nicest folks ever!
