Last Supper
Hi! I'm fairly new to cross stitch but really want to try my hand at this for my family dining room. Is it just full cross stitch, or does it have half and quarter cross stitch too? A lot of reviews that I have read about it said that seperating the threads was a nightmare; has anyone else thought the same experience?

Just how "new" are you to cross stitch. This is quite a large project for a beginner. I, personally, dislike kits. I highly recommend buying your patterns and supplies separately. Take a look at the Artecy pattern of The Last Supper that is available on this site. That pattern is 100% full stitches. Artecy patterns are very clear and easy to follow. If you have been stitching with DMC floss you may have some of the suggested colors.

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION -- I am not an employee of this company

I did this project a few years ago but I was able to get it as a pattern and not as a kit. If it is still available as just a pattern that is how I would go, and use my own floss. if I remember correctly there were very few if any half cross stitches. I think it was all full stitches. Though it is a big project it really isn't that hard even for a beginning stitcher. Just take your time and you will do a great job. it is really beautiful.

I checked several places on the internet and could find no one that was selling just the pattern. I know longer have my pattern. I guess they probably make more money on kits so Janlynn did away with just patterns.

I checked the Janlynn website to see if it said what type of floss was used. From what I read it is not DMC. They only sell their own brand of floss on the website so I am pretty sure that is what you would get. I am not a fan of brands other then DMC, but that is just my opinion. When I did my pattern the pattern used DMC floss so it was no problem.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice; I really appreciate your ladies wisdom! I'll keep my eyes open for a leisure arts pattern then. I saw Amazon has one for $30, so I'll keep looking. You never know what one might find in a thrift store!!!

Okay, a quick update:-) I bought this kit the other day from a lady who was cleaning out her closet of unopened, "probably-will-never-do" cross stitch kits. (It was a steal!) It does have DMC floss and it is presorted. The chart is fairly easy to read, just normal looking to me. I am currently working on Janlynn's guardian angel kit, so I am pleased to see that this kit is laid out the same. I am so excited to start it:-)

This also sets my teeth on edge. I had a neighbor many years ago who stitched it and didn't have enough fabric. I got so tired of hearing her complain about it. I brainstormed with her for a couple of afternoons but bottom line is- you don't have enough, you don't have enough. Throw it out and start anew. I finally told her to just go with half the apostles or a third and do a triptych. I don't know what she ended up doing. I'm not into religious stuff anyway.
Having said that, please make sure that you have enough fabric! :)

Good tip; I just measured it.The fabric is 8" wider and 8" longer than the finished design, so I guess that makes it 4" bigger all around. That is a funny story though! Half the apostles:-)

NZ, I was desperate. She stitched it for her sister in law. She didn't like the sister in law all that much and didn't want to stitch the motif because she had already stitched it for herself so you can imagine her "pain" and complaining. :)

I start in the middle, so it's at least centered but if you start off with insufficient fabric then it doesn't matter where you begin. If I know that I have more than plenty then I usually begin in upper left. I like working down. It all depends on the pattern.
