GLUE TO PREVENT FRAYING OF CROSS STITCH MATERIAL
YEARS AGO I WAS GIVEN A BOTTLE OF GLUE TO PREVENT THE EDGES FROM FRAYING WHILE WORKING ON MY COUNTED CROSS STITCH, BUT I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT THE NAME OF IT WAS. I NEED TO PURCHASE SOME NOW. I DO HAVE AN OLD BOTTLE OF "TACHY GLUE", BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS IT. CAN ANYONE HELP?

Hi there.

For me I always use the brown 1 to 2 inch masking tape. That all. I known about that in USA 40 years ago.

Perhaps it was Fray Check.

What is this tape called? Can I buy it in a fabric store?

You can buy Fray Check at any sewing store. JoAnn Fabrics carries it in stock. It works well. Sometimes I use masking tape for a small project. I have also basted around the cloth with my sewing machine. Any of these solutions work well.

If you have a serger, that works very well on the edges of the material. I just serge all 4 sides and it works like a dream.

I'm with Cheryl. Try the Fray Check. You can get it at either JoAnns or Michaels as well as your LNS.....

You can use Fray Check on all edges. Just dry it on waxed paper. It is very stiff & scratches. I just zigzag, since my server died.

I wouldn't tape using a scroll frame, too much thickness difference. I did tape a tiny piece once. Used. "Blue Painter's Tape" which doesn't leave a residue like most.

Gotta rant a little.

I'm on the HOA board. Someone lost a cat over New Years & plastered the neighborhood with posters every few feet. Literally every light post & street sign, gate, bulletin boards, etc. Must be about 25 within a block, All with package tape. Unless removed, the adhesive will collect dirt & look terrible. My HOA only has 3 to clean, but outside the gates, the Master Assoc has a lot of work.

And odds are the kitty strolled home for breakfast, but the lady never bothered to take down the posters. No, no, I fully sympathize with pet owners who lose pets. I leave up the 2-3 posters they tape to the gates, which remove the paint.

Rant done!

I find that serging or zigzagging is the best option for me. Fray check is sort of gunky and the tape made the fabric bulky. I used those items when I was in travel status and did not have my sewing machine available. Or you can do it by hand. I've done that many times as well.
