25 count
Those beautiful Heaven on Earth designs have caught my eye. But how on earth could anyone stitch 25 stitches per inch?

Very easily, by going "over one" with one strand of floss. I've also done "Over one" on 28-count as well but I definitely need a good light and a magnifier to do it with. It takes a lot of time but the results are really gorgeous! All the Heaven and Earth Designs charts are done "over one".

I agree Bermuda! The end results are gorgeous. I have been working on 28 & 25 count over one, but I use two strands, instead of one. I also agree with needing a good light & magnifyer. I am currently working on a project on 25 ct black Lugana over one, I couldn't do it, if I didn't have my floor OTT light with the magnifyer attached.

I can possibly, but not likely, see myself doing one over 25 but never over 28. I'd lose my mind. How do you do fractionals on 28 over one?

The two of you must be patience personified! :)

I used to be able to do 36 and 40 count with no magnification! DH says that is why I can no longer see well.enough to use anything smaller than 16 count. I think it is just old age!

I just purchased an HAED pattern that suggested 25 ct over 1, but I am going to use 20 ct over 1. It will add about 2 1/2" to the length and width, but having only stitched on 14 and 16 ct before, I thought 25 ct might be too much of a jump. I will use 2 strands to get full coverage.

I agree with Bermuda, it is very easy and looks beautiful when done. People that have seen the one that I did for my grandson say that it looks like a painting. It turns into a great pillow. All of my grandchildren want one now. I also work on 28 and 32 count, one over one. It really is fun. Try it, you might like it.

dj, teach your grandchildren to stitch if they want one they can do their own! LOL

No doubt, does it look beautiful but when the eyes no longer play along then one has to make concessions. I have an OTT light, which I love but am not ready to use a magnifier. I had one and the constant adjusting got on my nerves. I gave it to DD. It made feel dizzy. I have to take frequent breaks, DH needs something, the phone, household chores, etc and was forever fiddling with the thing.

Su, I don't think that's the reason. Our opthamologist cautioned DD not to ever use the drugstore readers. She said that the eyes get lazy and require ever stronger lenses. I've heard this theory several times.

i guess it would be an eye strain to use the drugstore glasses if they weren't quite right for your eyes.

would you make a full cross stitch over the thread or a half stitch?

It depends on the pattern. Some are done in full and some (rarely) all in half. Are you referring to going over one?

Gotta run, granddaughter is home from school, some cold virus. She is chasing me around for whatever she feels she needs at the moment. :(
