I JUST LEARNED SOMETHING
I have been going thru the magazines that I picked up during my CROSS STITCH PATTERN RESCUE MISSION. In the Stoney Creek Collection from December 2005 there was an interesting tip. "Needles are punched out from one side only, and it is easier to thread the needle from the side that is a little bit rounded." I had no idea! WOW!!! No one ever told me that! Has anyone noticed?

That is why some embroiderers, especially those using tricky metallic threads, will pay $25 or more for a hand made Japanese needle. The maker smooths the eye on all sides so they do not pull or shred the delicate threads.

I have noticed that, when threading some needles, the thread seems to miss the eye completely no matter how hard I try. But, if I turn the needle around and try it on the other side it slips right through. I never knew why, thanks for the information!

Amazing, I had no idea. Can it be felt? How does one know which side is which?

Miss Kitty, $25 per needle? That is a hefty price. I picked up a book on Japanese embroidery while living there and I can understand why high quality products are required. I've lost countless needles in my chair, for that price I'd cut the chair open to extract all those needles. LOL

Oh, where are they being sold? Maybe I could improve the appearance of my work.

Nancye, why are you giving us ideas? LOL
