floss
Is the listed price just for the chart? Am I understanding correctly that the floss is not included and I would pay and additional $30.00 for floss.

Hello,

You are correct. The price that is listed is just for the chart, instructions and color key as this design is not sold as a manufactured kit. You would have to purchase the supplies you need separately. Thank you )

Don't forget to buy fabric if you don't have any. You can use the fabric calculator on the left side of the screen when you click the fabric option.

Don't let the price scare you off. I am working on a Mystic Stitch pattern right now myself. It is my first from them, but it won't be my last. I am quite impressed with the quality of the pattern. Mystic Stitch patterns are all full cross stitches and stitched solid. Very detailed with a large number of colors and subtle shading. It is a black and white chart on multiple pages, but the symbols are clear and easy to read. Best if worked one page at a time. You can always spread out the floss purchasing over time. Order what you need to complete an area and then buy more as you go. My pattern calls for 2 strands of floss on 14 count fabric, but I prefer the denser coverage using 3 strands. Although, it will take more floss that way. You won't be disappointed with the end result.

Bruce -- I agree that it isn't necessary to purchase all the floss at one time. The challenge is -- unless you have the pattern right in front of you it is impossible to know which colors to buy first. Hopefully, this stitcher will have a stash with some of the colors to help get started.

If you choose to spread out your floss purchase, do you have to be concerned by a color lot change and therefore have a slightly different shade of a color?

Hi,
I just picked up a couple more skeins of DMC 157, a medium light sky blue because I used up two skeins of my older 157 I've had for the last 4-5 years. Now because I'm doing a whole lot of this color for the sky in my chart, I had to switch to the newly bought skeins and there is no difference in the color in the areas where the old skeins and the new skeins have come together. I'm a "2s" person, so I buy 2 skeins of the colors I need and put one away. If you are needing to watch your costs, I agree with the other stitchers and buy the chart, find the pattern area (usually the middle of the pattern) where you will start stitching, and look at the 4-5 major colors you will be starting your pattern with. When I first began to cross stitch and didn't have any floss, I did it this way; then I would buy between 3-6 skeins of floss every week for that specific chart. Once my chart was completed, I continued to buy 4-6 DMC floss every two weeks even when not doing any cross stitching.

Like Bermuda Said -- usually you do not have to worry about dye lot changes when using DMC floss. In this pattern there are only a few flosses where you should need more than one skein of a particular color. Buy them both at the same time if you are concerned.
