First timer
Aside from the pattern and the threads I need from the item I'm ordering, what else would I need?
I want to order one time everything I will need to start my new project. Thank you.
This is exciting for me!

Gigi what a beautiful project. Do you have a hoop or a frame to hold the fabric. I use qsnaps. . I prefer to have the pattern beside me on a board ( sold for this purpose ) I use a magnetic marker also a pencil to cross off as I go. I always make a working copy, keeping the original for further use.
Enjoy

Thank you so much for your response. I will get those stuff before I start with this project. Will keep you posted.

I know it may seem obvious, but don't forget to order fabric and to use the site's calculator to figure out the right size if you don't use the recommended fabric.

In addition to the other suggestions, you may want to pick up a pair of needlework scissors to keep with your work so you aren't always hunting around for a pair when you need some.

If you don't have a plan for what to do with your floss and don't want to start out with anything too expensive, many people use snack size baggies to hold floss. The little paper wrappers with the numbers will fall off - no matter what you do, trust me! - and you want to be able to keep it sorted. You can either keep the paper tab in the baggie or use a sharpie to write the number on the outside.

Thank you so much for the tips. I can't wait to start on this. I'm sure you will hear more from me :)

Hello -- Welcome to the ECS Chat group. For the most part, participants of this group are NOT employees of Everything Cross Stitch. The chat is provided so stitchers can give advice and helpful hints to other stitchers.

You stated that you are a "first timer." Does that mean that this is your first cross stitch project or your first time ordering from this site?

If this will be your first project you might want to reconsider and start with a smaller design. If this is your first time ordering from ECS you will be amazed at the Customer Service this company provides.

Before you go any further be sure to register for the weekly newsletter. You will receive an e-coupon for 20% off your first purchase.

It's my first cross stitch project outside school :)

How I started was I saw the Mother Teresa cross stitch in Pinterest and I thought maybe I can start doing cross stitch. I don't really have a hobby. And so I searched the pattern and that's how I stumbled into this site. But now as I chit chat with you all, I was thinking maybe I should first start with small one until I get the rhythm of cross stitching.

Thank you for all your inputs but I will definitely get into this new hobby. I will try to find a small one. Can you give me an example of a small one? To have an idea what to look for.

Thanks!

A beginner kit might be a great idea to start, but there's no reason why you couldn't work up to the Mother Theresa pattern fairly quickly. There's a great section on this site of beginner kits that you can find here: http://www.everythingcrossstitch.com/someone-special-mrl-s418.aspx?k2=y4

Or just click on Cross Stitch Kits in the menu and you'll see the For Beginners section. There are some very cute items in there.

That said, I was someone who pretty much jumped in the deep end. After doing really basic cross stitch on gingham fabric as a kid, then doing some stamped projects as a pre-teen, my very first counted cross stitch project was Teresa Wentzler's Rapunzel! It took me years! I almost gave up, haha, but learned a lot working on it and turned cross stitch into a huge passion of mine. So whatever you decide, just make sure you're comfortable with it. :)

Good idea on beginners kit. I think I'll check that out. This is really getting interesting. I'm so excited that now my daughter and even my husband want to do it with me ;)

I feel like I'm entering a new chapter...

Thank you for your encouragement everyone!

Hi Gigi!
How wonderful your daughter and husband want to do counted cross stitching. You will have your own cross stitching group right in your own home!! :)all of you might want to pick out a starter kit and then learn together. If your husband has an interest in cars, have him look at some simple cross stitch kits under "browse Project Themes" that is in the small menu to your left. Be aware there are a lot of stitchers on this "chat" from beginners to very experienced stitchers that can help answer any questions you, your husband and daughter may have. There is no such thing as a stupid question, just a question that has not been asked. Let your husband know that this chat message board does have a fair share of men who stitch, so all of you have fun ! Oh, sometimes we get a bit "saucy" and kid around with each other but it's all in good clean fun. Don't be afraid to join in!!!😀

You will enjoy cross stitching!! I had 4 of the young girls over one day over the Christmas Holiday's about 3 years ago and taught them with a small lady bug kit. Just this past summer one of the girls came over and we stitched all day long. I have been doing it for over 30 years. Good Luck!!
