Abandoned projects
Isn't it sad when you find projects in secondhand shops that have been abandoned. Recently I visited a Hospice shop which sells donated goods to raise funds for the local hospice and found a beautiful picture of flowers on linen. Because of the size of the material I don't think it has been completed but it does not have the pattern or the cottons with it so I can't identify what the pattern was called. The manageress said that when they are called to clear a house out the family often has no interest in their late family member's hobby and just want everything out of the house and the projects often get separated. I think I will just get this framed as it is just to be able to admire the work that has gone into it. So sad.

Can you post a picture of it? I'd love to see it.

Yes it is sad, and I can easily see that happen. My cousin stumbled on a yard sale where they had all the DMC embroidery colors and lots of matetial, but just two small Christmas projects. She bought it all, sorted out what she needed and sent the rest to me. She and I are the only two amoung all of our relatives and friends who do needlework. I don't know what will happen to my stuff someday.

But I'm happy to tell you that our branch library ok'ed a night of stitching. Another lady and I are in the library's book club and we started talking about how we'd like to have a stitching club so we could meet others. It starts next month and I'm keeping my fingerd crossed that the library will let us keep it going.

A few years ago I was at a flea market and saw a cross-stitch picture called "Our Country Home" which is 14" wide and 26" long (matted and framed). Someone with the initials KMC spent hours and hours stitching this beautiful picture and I couldn't believe it wound up in a flea market. The price was only $10. but when the young lady selling it saw me looking, she told me I could have it for $5. I would have taken it for more than $10. but grabbed it up for $5. and it's hanging in my home and being appreciated, as it should be. KMC, if you should see this and you were the one who stitched it in '92, I want you to know how much I love your work!

This makes me think that maybe I should send pictures of my cross-stitch projects to my children and grandchildren and ask them who wants what so that when I go, they won't wind up in a flea market or thrift store. One daughter already has her name on the back on one of my pictures but there are plenty more to go around.

If you post a picture someone might recognize it and we might be able to help you find the pattern.
