Pattern size versus pattern visual quality.....
Hi,
Just going to throw this out there to get some opinions....
I have a landscape pattern that i bought years ago and happened to be looking through my stash and found it tonight. The stitch count is 250 wide x 176 high. In figuring out what size it will be if I do the pattern on 25-count evenweave Lugana, OVER ONE, the finished pattern size will be 10 inches wide by 7 inches high which is smaller than I would like it BUT doing it over one on the 25-count will give me the "looks like a painting" visual quality.
On the other hand if I make it Bigger, without using either Aida or Hardanger 22 count, but use 36-count fabric, OVER TWO, I'll have a finished pattern that will be 13 3/4 inches wide x 9 3/4 inches high which is more to my liking BUT I will lose the "looks like a painting quality" because over two on 36-count fabric is like stitching " over one" on 18-count.
Your thoughts??

Just my opinion! It's a cross-stitch pattern, so if looks like cross-stitch, that would be appropriate, right? Which would you enjoy stitching more? I think 36-count would be nicer because you go over two threads instead of one, so it will hold the shape of the cross better. I enjoy this size because you can use two strands of floss and still get good coverage.

Bermuda, I agree, with jsimon. Going over two also makes it easier if there are fractionals.

My initial thought was for you to put it back into the stash container. It sounds like so much work and over one no less! LOLOLOL

Thank you both for your thoughts! I think I will go with the 36-count 'over 2' because I'll get the size I like and I think I'll enjoy it more when i do start the project. jsimonpurple, you're right about it looking like a cross stitch piece, after all, what's wrong with that???
Texas, thank you for saving me from the "looking into my stash too much" syndrome; seems I've been doing that a lot lately.

Looking at ones stash is both therapeutic and depressing. The first keeps you from buying more and the latter makes you realize how much there is to be done yet!

I never thought of it as appearing more like a painting versus cross stitch because my stuff would never fall into the painting category. I did beautiful work 20 or so years ago. I only have a piece or two, the rest I gave away. Wish that I had photos. Oh well, I enjoyed stitching so much. That is it's own reward.

Taking a break. Still have one bathroom to clean and would like to mop my floors but those chores might have to wait.

When are you beginning with your new project, Bermuda? That reminds me I still have a UFO. Darn.
