A Treasured Time
Hello,
I have on quick question. This cross stitch has lots of 1/2 stitch. Am I correct to go from bottom left to top right with the half cross stitch? Thank you.

Yes, Alana, that is exactly how you work them. I worked on a project once that was done entirely in half stitches in very similar shades and did not finish it. It got hopelessly lost but that was a very long time ago and I have learned many tricks on how to keep on track. Now, I enjoy doing 1/2 stitches. They give added dimension somehow or so it seems to me. It also relieves the boredom.

This pattern is a work in progress for me as well. The half cross stitches really add dimension to the picture. I work them from top right to bottom left also. Love this old time winter scene!
Happy Stitching!

I am also working on this pattern. I am also doing my stiches from bottom left to top right. I just finished working on a pattern that was done all in one color. For some reason I am nervous about having to switch colors. I hope it fades as I get going. Some colors call for a different number of strands. I hope I can keep it all straight and it looks good.

Happy Stitching!!!

Make notes of whatever changes you're nervous about on post it notes...stick them to your pattern. Enjoy... :)

The attached picture shows a piece I stitched where the sky was all the same color floss, but the top half of the sky was stitched in full cross stitches, and the bottom half in half-crosses, which made the sky look lighter as it neared the horizon. It was a wonderful effect.

Imurdoch, that is beautiful. Love the framing, I can see why you got a blue ribbon.

The answers the others gave you are correct. I am a left handed stitcher and do mine the opposite way and have done so for 30 years. For a cross stitch I start in upper left hand corner to lower right hand corner for first stitch. To finish the cross I go from upper right hand corner to lower left hand corner to complete the stitch. For half cross stitches I go from upper left to lower right. I know that is the opposite of what you are taught but since I am left handed doing it the right handed way seems backward to me.

Listen to what the others told you but just wanted to add another perspective. Have a good day. Beautiful project.

I also like that half stitches work up twice as fast! Your project is beautiful, lmurdoch.

I too enjoy the half stitches - moves things along a bit quicker. I have done this one a few years ago. Made it into a pillow and gave to my hairdresser for Christmas one year.
