Loss
Oh well it never rains but it pours!! We went out to the mother-in-law's farm on Saturday and I went down the hill to let my horses into the next section of hillside paddock and noticed I was missing one horse. After spending 2 hours in the pouring rain I gave up and went back next day. It took me another hour walking around the hillside and through the trees but I found her. Unfortunately she was dead so now I am down to seven. I will miss her as she was a pretty mare and as I don't have any fillies out of her I have lost the blood line to breed from so I will have to buy a new trotting mare if I want to breed another trotter. More money! Rest in peace "Scruffy" you will be missed.

So very sorry about your loss. I know how attached we get, and I know how much you will miss her. I owned horses for 35 years, and gave my 2 to a friend last year when we sold our farm and downsized. I miss them every day.

Sorry you had such a loss. Horses always were my friends and my co-workers. I worked on a ranch and my pal, Ranger, knew every inch of the ranch. He worked rain or shine without complaint. He would nicker when I needed him, as if to say, "I'm here and ready to go with you."
He was not enthralled with cattle. You could tell that he thought that they weren't very bright because he'd huff out on them when we had to go to their part of the ranch! I will never forget putting a wet new calf over Ranger's withers and lead the mama cow to the barn to get her and her baby dry and warm. I swear that Ranger smiled. Prayers for you.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. It is difficult losing what is "a part of the family".

Yes she was a character. Unfortunately I did not have much success breeding from her as her four colts all had to be retired before going racing for one reason or another and I was never able to get a filly from her.

I'm so sorry, no matter how big or how small, they're still our babies.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose a pet. I love horses but don't own any. My son's girlfriend has several horses and competes in competitions. I would like to see her compete. She just got a new horse named Gus but he has an injury right now but I think he is getting better. May the memories of Scruffy comfort you at this time!
