Threads
These are my threads for my next project, which starts as soon as I get my sweaty little hands on the fabric. I need nineteen more colors. I bobbinated 47 new skeins, which is eight times the work, because I precut my floss, which is highly inconvenient when using bobbins, but for a project this size, I think you need bobbins. I ransacked other projects to get many more colors. Now I need to split off the bobbins for blended threads and load those, and put everything that is stitched straight from the bobbins in a different box.

Looks like quite a project!

It's big, but not as big as most big projects. It's about 20 full large print pages. I'm hoping I can finish by February, but it's a few new techniques and the only other time I tried one of these, it wasn't successful. I love this series of charts and really hope I can do it!

I love Mucha's artwork and this one especially! Love his use of color and form. I like the ones in greens and this red/rust.
He was an amazing artist, unrecognized by the art world, but my aunt was head of the art department at a small private university. She had very broad ideas about art, but she was well aware of Mucha and shared her affection for him with me, from my childhood on. After all, he had done wonderful posters for even the Moulin Rouge (those naughty stage dancers). And, of course, my aunt had been a wonderful dancer in a group like the Follies. She was a hoot. I am so happy to see that you like this design (so is Aunt Rose, who is dancing someplace).

Simon, I like your term 'bobbinated' your floss. I too put all my floss on bobbins, & store them in the plastic boxes. When I get ready for a new project, I pull all the floss needed & put them in the floss away plastic zip baggies on a ring. I have three big projects bagged up right now, an Artecy one(66 colors) a Mystic Stitch one (50 colors), & one I had a pattern made from a photo, which has 75 colors. I had to go buy about 40 new skeins of floss yesterday. Those have to be 'bobbinated' yet, then I will begin stitching. I don't precut my floss like you do though. When I have to blend colors, I pull a length from each color, & put them in their own baggie, with the color numbers & the pattern symbol on it. I then hang my ring full of baggies on my floor stand, & am ready to stitch. At the end if the project, I will then wind the leftover floss from each bag, back on it's bobbin, then file it all back into the plastic boxes numerically.

Even though it looks challenging, I'm sure you can do it! You are certainly organized and ambitious. (I don't think I've ever known of anyone who can stitch 12 hours a day. Lol!) Like Su, I think the colors are gorgeous. You'll have to keep us updated on your progress.

Bobbinate isn't my word, lol, I see it in other cross-stitch communities.

I love the colors in this, beautiful pinks, blues, greens. I really like the blended colors. Like pink with blue or green. So pretty.

There are 119 colors, most of them blended. I am really really ready to start this! But I have finally gotten to the place where I can work on something else while I wait. Before the Scarlet Quince project was all I could think about.

I force myself to work on my gift socks in the mornings, one stripe a day. Otherwise I will never finish before Christmas! This is my third pair and I want to make two or three more pairs.

I wish I was on your gift list Simon.

Mary, if you were, you would probably never receive your socks!

I never heard that word either... so I did a quick search on the googler, and found a video, where a woman made a " bobbinater" it's pretty funny. She took a cheap plastic fan, a large paper clip, and a lot of tape, and demonstrated how much faster it is than doing it by hand. The fan fell apart, she had to keep stopping because the floss was getting tangled, and a couple of times she missed the bobbin...I think I'll stick to winding by hand.
