Hoop versus qsnap
What is your preference, I prefer qsnaps , my aunt uses scroll rods, I am thinking of trying these for a larger project, she winds the fabric under does anyone have a favorite way under or over, looking for tips.

I prefer Q-snaps for all my projects except for the small projects like Littlehouse Needleworks which I stitch using hoops

I too prefer Q Snaps. Started out soooooo long ago with a hoop, then went to a scroll rod, then to Q Snaps when they first came out. I have so many sizes & extenders, that I can make any size needed. For the larger ones, I attach to to my wooden floor stand, that I used with my scroll rods. On the really big ones, I roll the fabric at the he bottom & pin it, so it doesn't just hang there. Have never had a problem doing it this way. But, each stitcher has their own way of doing things, you just have to experiment, to see which works best for you.

I love, love, using hoops. Ergonomically its most comfortable for me to use. However, for large projects I use a scroll frame set on on top of a table stand. With my scroll frame, I will also wind the fabric under the scroll rods. Its very convenient to use with large projects. Again, its all about what's most comfortable for you. I just know that if I'm stitching a small to mid-size project, I will use hoops. (I have tried Q-snaps before but found it too cumbersome and awkward for me to use).

I have hoops for 5x7 sized projects. For bigger ones, (like Heaven and Earth Designs) I just bought a Q-snap that I'm going to try. I have been using a hoop on my one full coverage piece, but I wanted something to hold the fabric in a rectangular area rather than a circular area, so that is why I bought the Q-snap. I also think it will be better because all the fabric goes everywhere when you have a larger piece, and with a hoop I can't do anything with all that extra fabric, whereas the Q-snap has those grime guards and the ability to fold the fabric and sort of "tame it."

I've never used scroll rods before I don't have a lot of space in my house to store something huge like that, so I tend to use more portable things like a Q-snap or a hoop.

Since I have no strength in my left wrist...grasping becomes an issue... I now prefer scroll rods for any thing larger than 8". And my favorite is the American Dream Products that are closing their doors next month. That howl you heard was me.

The best way to roll your fabric on a scroll rod is so the back side of the fabric is "on top"...front side of your fabric is not handled or exposed as much as with q-snaps...you don't need "covers"...

Haven't even mentioned today how much I detest q-snaps...I'm so proud.😉

Thank you all. Now I understand why the fabric is rolled with backside showing.
Sorry another place closing, what is the reason?

The young woman didn't elaborate, but since their products are totally American-made, I imagine the cheapies are pricing them out of business. makes me sick in my heart...
