Riolis conversion to DMC
Has anyone done a conversion of riolis floss and/or wool Yarn to DMC floss? I was looking at a riolis kit and wondering about conversion since I remember a chat about difficulty with using the riolis wool Yarn that comes with the kit. I still may want to purchase the kit since I love the design ( it's the one with the wine bottle and grapes) and change out the kit threads and the black aida.

Hi Bermuda. I have not done a Riolis to DMC conversion yet, but for the larger kits that use the wool blend thread I will not hesitate and definitely will be converting for the following reasons: I am currently working on a smaller Riolis kit and found that if you need to frog it is difficult and frays, separates, and becomes worn looking; I have also heard that some people have come up short on thread and I would think that is was likely due to the first reason I listed. Since Riolis is a Russian kit producer, getting additional thread is probably not a reasonable expectation. For those reasons, I will not hesitate to pull out my DMC color card and start converting to the best possible color matches. Good luck in what you decide.

Hi cat lover,
Thank you for your reply. You are currently doing a small riolis chart with the wool thread? If so, does the riolis wool thread have 'thread COLOR numbers' labeled on them?
The reason I'm asking is that I may have found a
Riolis thread to DMC floss color conversion chart. I don't carry any of the riolis wool Yarn/thread in my stash to be able to compare the colors on the conversion chart I found. Do you have a few of the riolis thread numbers for me to compare on the conversion chart I found? Or do you just want me to tell you where I found the on-line conversion chart I'm speaking of??

I was out running errands late tonight, so I'm sorry for the delay to respond to your question. I know this answer is not ideal, but I checked my kit and all of the papers included (I always keep everything!) and the threads are listed by mostly basic color names gray, white, but the more unusual colors are ochre and terra cotta and all are listed in numerical order only (1, 2, 3, etc.) and no info whatsoever is included with the kit about the thread. A lot of the printed material is in Russian, but looks like it is also fully translated to English and a few other languages, so sorry this is not much to go on. The wool blend thread Riolis uses in their kits is supposed to be an Italian thread made by a company named Safil. I do not know of any conversion lists to DMC, but if you happen to find one please post the link or info here on chat!

Hmmm...ok
Well here is the website: riolis > doc
As you can see, the chart appears to have DMC numbers with another set of numbers parallel to them.
The website is also titled, Riolis Mayflower riolis when "riolis thread conversion to DMC floss" is typed in for an internet search.
Thanks for your help. Maybe someone will see the conversion chart and find a explanation as to whether it is legit or not.

Ok Bermuda. I copied your strange looking web address link, went to google it, then went into google images, and found this link. I found some others but many have Russian writing which unfortunately does not help me unless I try and always use the translator online to know what it's about, too much trouble. So check out this interesting link which I pasted at the end of this note (copy and paste into your browser to check it out). I may be able to do something with this color coded chart info and will check my kit colors against it tomorrow to see if there are matches and if I have a complete match to all of my kit colors even though this kit is small and does not use a lot of colors. Question is whether this is a comprehensive list (and is Mayflower the wool thread that's used in the Riolis kits), but here's the link for you to take a look https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/76/88/42/768842f056934896b1c01d6a1d89ece1--color-charts-crossstitch.jpg
