Seasonal Pictures
I am curious, when you complete seasonal / holiday themed cross stitch pictures how do you display them? I have one or two I have made into pillows but my husband and son aren't throw pillow fans so I don't want to get too many. I have thought about designating a changing exhibit gallery where a framed item would be switched out for the holidays but I do not have a lot of storage space, plus it seems like a lot of work for a short display period. How do you display yours?

Le-Anne,
I don't have too many done yet, but I am working currently on a Fall/Thanksgiving one. I think what I might do is get a storage bin or clean out the two drawer-type storage bins in my hall closet and store all the holiday items I hope to accumulate! I also know that wrapping linens etc. in blue tissue paper helps with any yellowing that might occur. I am not sure that Aidia cloth or other counted cross stitch cloths will yellow but just in case it does, blue tissue paper will help prevent that from happening. Hope this helps!

Le-Anne - I have been stitching for about 23 years or so and have accumulated quite a few holiday/seasonal pictures that I change throughout my home with each season/holiday. My husband is like most men - never notices them so there isn't a problem there and I love to bring them out of the totes I have them stored in and just remember how much I enjoyed working on each of them. I change them all over the house so I am really in the "spirit of the seasons". I have never had a problem with my aida projects yellowing or fading. I just store them in totes with the lid on and in a closet and they are fine. I hope you continue to make projects for the different seasons and holidays. Take care and keep on enjoying your stitching.

I never knew about the blue tissue paper. I have a pillow I cross stitched when I was a teen that is a Christmas design. I might wrap it in white tissue paper but I know if colored tissue paper ever gets wet it will bleed from craft projects.
I think I like the idea of switching out some of my every day framed pieces with holiday themed ones like you ladies do. You are exactly right about men. I can store them in a tote like you do.
I'm pretty frugal and careful with my money so my decoration accumulation for holidays has been quite slow. This will be a fun way to get some more.

I change everything, pictures, rugs, pillows, throws, etc. I have all of my stuff, plus all of my mothers stuff, it’s a lot! Luckily I have plenty of storage. Now if I could just remember what I put where!

This may sound weird, but I live in a Bi-level home and very high walls in the entry way. I display ALL of my finished cross stitch and framed pictures. I have general ones, Christmas, winter, my son's birth announcement, etc. My husband says I put too much time and money into them to not display them all the time.

I have a special box of handmade christmas ornaments, I put a christmas cross stitch on the lid of the box. It comes out when the ornaments do and sits on my sideboard through the holidays. I also have a few spots that I change the image seasonally, some for holidays, some for seasons, sometimes I change the one hanging there just because I feel like it. I store them in a tote in the closet.

My preference is storage in an acid-free box, with each item wrapped in acid-free tissue. Learned this years ago ny m chemistry researcher dad.
They only get to breathe for each holiday. Two years ago, I was not doing seasonal/holiday cross stitch. Not at all. Then my oldest daughter begged me to do a Halloween design she had seen. She got it last year and loves it.

What wonderful tips here with the separate boxes and acid-free boxes! I also agree with the one stitcher's husband that we put too much money and time into our stitching that we should display for all the world to see! Just a side note on finished pieces. I stitch my initials and year finished on each piece. That way when I look back or if someone asked me when I did that piece or why the date/year can jog my memory.

Le-Anne,
I bet if you did a couple of sports related projects (or whatever their interest is) your husband and son wouldn't mind throw pillows! Great tips on storage etc. from chatters.
