Gettysburg Bound
Taking a day trip to Gettysburg this Saturday to take in the fall foliage! My daughters and pups are going with us. We are packing a picnic lunch and plan to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and scenery and escape for the day! So excited to bond with nature.

That sounds like a wonderful way to spend a fall day. Since we have been having beautiful sunny days here in Michigan, you should have that on Sat. I remember when we were young and stopped in Gettysburg on a trip to relatives in Conn. and saw the movies about the battles there. My sister was about 6, and she piped up asking Dad which team we were cheering for - the Blue or Gray. Then wanted to know when half time was so she could see the band. Little kids use such low voices - the whole place cracked up. You can tell we are a football family.

Sounds like fun. We’re going to Grove City PA. on Saturday for some outlet shopping. We’re taking Miss Mabel, she loves to go shopping. On Sunday afternoon we’re taking her to the metro park Halloween walk, spoiled much?

Jaj - where do you live - I live just 30 miles south of Erie, Pa - was thinking of going to Volant, Pa to the little shops sometime in November to see if I find some nice things for Christmas gifts.

Once you have visited the battle field, make sure you stop continue to go into the town and stop at Gallery30-beautiful home made gourdes and not one is alike. Also have beautiful fashion accessories. Another place to visit is Cadori's-especially if you are a lover of nutcrackers and smokers, all of these are from Germany. Great little town to visit .

Clplatt, we’re about 25 miles west of Cleveland, or 2 hours west of Erie...I know that, because we always stop in Erie on the way to Toronto.

Been to Gettysburg several times. My DS1 is a Confederate Civil War re-enactor so got to see him participate in Battle of Gettysburg. Since I am a history "junkie" it is one of my favorite places to visit. If you get a chance you should go to Intercourse PA. in the heart of Amish country. Great place to visit with many shops especially if you do quilting like I do. The food there is great also at the Amish restaurants.

Have a good time on your trip.

I lived in Eastern Pennsylvania just south of the Pocono Mountains until 2011 when we left to become full time RV'ers. I love Gettysburg and touring the battlefields and going through the shops in town. Lancaster County is beautiful too. Loving shopping in the little towns of Intercourse and Ronks. My daughter moved to Bucks County and that is beautiful too but very expensive......so many beautiful historical stone farm houses! We spent the summer there and found a piece of furniture we really liked at a store in that area but it was more than we wanted to spend. About a week later we drove out to Intercourse and a few miles west of the town is an Amish furniture store where I had purchased some very lovely pieces for our house when we lived in PA. Well we found the exact same piece from the store in Bucks County in our favorite store at the store just west of Intercourse!....and several hundred dollars cheaper!! We are in the Ozark Mountains in northern Arkansas right now and in another week will be heading to our winter campground in Texas. There is some changing of the colors here but not near as much as we had in PA and there will be no fall in Texas. I really miss being in PA at this time of year but I guess being in a warmer climate for late fall and winter is a pretty good trade off.

I grew up in Bucks County just Northeast of Philadelphia. The area is beautiful especially upper Buck where I went to High School but yes very expensive and more congested then I remember. When we take our nostalgic trips back that way I am amazed at the farmlands that are now housing developments. It is kind of sad but happens, unfortunately. My parents live in the Poconos and my mother said to me last night that their colors are pretty much at their peak and will be done in the next week or so. Gettysburg didn't have much color although the website said they were at their peak but I think lack of rain in September and most of October messed that forecast up! I love Lancaster and only live about 45 minutes to an hour away and go up there every chance I get. Just love roaming the back country roads and watching the farmers at work or seeing the horse and buggies and the Amish people going about their business.
