Thread Heaven, beeswax and linen starts
Hello Everyone,

I have a few questions that I would LOVE to get your input on! Thread Heaven....how does it work and what does it do for the threads? I'm wondering if it keeps them from getting 'fuzzy' because it is annoying when you are working on something and you notice your already stitched sections look fluffy or no longer crisp and tight? It happens to me on opal linen, which might be the metallic threads that run through the fabric causing this. Also, Beeswax, is that better? I also worry about these items staining my fabric. The other question is starting on linen. I've done a couple of pieces where they said to start in the middle and work out like typical cross stitch and I have one that tells you to start 3 "' in from top left corner. Well, i just got one that shows the arrows for the center, but doesn't tell you where to begin. Its about 6 pages so i will have to put them all together to figure out the exact center. I think that what I need to do...but I wanted your thoughts before I start it.

Thanks!!!
Jodi

Hi Jodi, I’ve been using Thread Heaven for years without any problems what so ever so can really recommend it. Change it when it gets murky looking. My mum used beeswax but I think it was to strengthen her sewing thread. I use my TH mostly when I’m using metallic threads. I just use small bits at a time and keep them in a little plastic pill case.

If your pattern has arrows to start in the centre then do so, the same if it tells you to start another way. Those that made it are going to guide you to the best way. I don’t stitch big things so have never had that problem, but if in doubt choose the middle route. Mark it off on your fabric with basting stitches.

Start wherever you are comfortable starting...doesn't matter...just ensure you're centering the pattern on the fabric! :)
About the "fuzzies", it could be the metallic threads in the fabric...try cutting your lengths of floss a few inches shorter. I would try that before trying the Thread Heaven. There is another thread conditioner that's supposed to help avoid damage from lights, sun, smoke, nuclear attacks...yeah, what are you going to do if doesn't do all its miracle stuff and you took all that time to run each of those threads thru that stuff? I can see the reason for using it with metallic...with the regular floss, not so much. :)

Thank you Ladies!! I started my project in the middle and its going well! I think I might try the Thread Heaven and beeswax just to see what they do. VCESS - I think you are right about the metallic fibers in the fabric...they probably rub the threads. I will cut the threads shorter and see if that helps. The new project I started on is called Quaker Halloween by Lila's Studio....so pretty! The fabric is gorgeous but very soft. I really feel like the stitches need to be pretty tight to look right. Oh well each piece you work on is different. Thank you again for your help!! I need to be in here more often!

Just a reminder about gridding - don't use reds, black or navy thread as those colours leave the dye behind.

How about you don't use threads of any color, use fishing line or ezcount? :)

I tried to post a picture...but its not working...so right now on Halloween Quaker I have finished the moon, 1/2 of the witch and the broom...so much fun to stitch. If anyone is pondering getting this pattern, I highly recommend! It's so pretty! I am using the called for threads and fabric which I am happy I did. Thank you for all of your input! I will keep trying to send a pic.
