You need to buy a 24 gauge Tapestry Needle! They have blunter tips, so you won't be bleeding all over your project. Try John James or Bohin brand. Cheap needles break easily and often have burrs in then eye, which shred thread. This gauge is for 14 count.

I agree with Su, buy the tapestry needles and go with the James or Bohins. I personally like the Bohin needles because of the smoother ‘eyes’ don’t tear up my floss. Speaking of needles, I broke 2 needles yesterday stitching because they were the less expensive ones.
And it wasn’t a stupid question you had; it was a perfectly good question. If the cross stitch project you buy is listed
As a PATTERN”, then you will need to buy tapestry needles; if it says the project is a KIT most times in the description it will state that it comes with a needle. Hope this helps!

Hi Su, you still burning the midnight oil?🙂

In 35 years, I've never broken even one tapestry needle...I've had bad ones with badly machined eyes, but never a broken one. :) Is there a certificate or something for that? LOL

Since you state that you do not have a needle, does that mean that this will be you first project? If so, this is definitely not a project for a beginner.

Usually the suggested supply lists do not mention needles. Guess the assumption is that if you are a stitcher you already have needles on hand.

Thank you very much for the replies! It's greatly appreciated! :)))

This is not my first project. I have been cross stitching before and I moved here in Canada and left all my stitching stuff in my country about 5 years ago but this is definitely a first time in a very long time to be cross stitching again. Thank you very much for the advise! ^^

Welcome to the ECS “chat” Mary June.
There should be an award that states, “I am the survivor of cheap stitching needles.”
Taking a cocoa break for my eyes from stitching white on white. Not my most favorite part....👀
