Is 28 ct. equivelent to 14 ct aida?
I am confused about this even weave jobelan, and how does it compare with aida?

28 ct evenweave jobelan is equivalent to 14 ct Aida. In evenweave you cross stitch over two by two threads. Therefore if you divide 28 by 2 the result is 14 or 14 stitches per inch which 14 ct Aida is. 36 ct is the same as 18 ct Aida and 32 ct is the same as 16 ct Aida. When stiching on evenweave if you are going left to right start the stich on the left side of a thread going up. I like linen for all my ornaments. To me Aida looks rather cheap. However if stiching a very large design with 300 or more for the stitch ct Aida is preferable if one uses 18 ct Aida. Linen becomes frayed along the edges for me when stitching a large design.

I had trouble with evenweave. The piece that I had seriously seemed wrong. It looked to me to be squares with every other square followed by a rectangle. When I was young, I could stitch up to 40 count linen without any magnification! Now I feel lucky to stitch on 16 count. I change a lot of 14 count to 16, even though that makes the design smaller. I loved linen, but I can't see well enough to stick with it. I think we all like the way linen looks, but my famIly and friends love my gifts. I felt that I needed to do something for my daughter becauwe she hosts Thanksgiving for us. I stitched a tiny turkey and put it into a tiny frame. She puts it on her mantle every year. She doesn't know that I plan to stitch her a little turkey and a bigger pair for each year! The bigger design is from my friend Cheryl Granda at Glendon Place.

Su,
I agree regarding something seriously wrong with your evenweave. There should not be any rectangle mixed with squares.
Here is a picture of 25-count evenweave Lugana, hope the picture is clear enough for you to see the fabric ‘squares’.Tap on picture to enlarge.

"Evenweave" includes linens and I have, unfortunately, run into this linen before. Yes, it gives a primitive-look and, while I love the "look", I hate MY stitches on linen...all those slubs push me around. But if you are supposed to be looking at Jobelan or Lugana, Su, something is very, very wrong. 😨
