Cover all pattern
So I have been thinking about trying my hand at a cover all pattern. I'm wondering if it might be a wise move to do a smaller one first to see if I even like it.
I like this one "Mini Sunset with Palm Trees"... somewhere in the world with palm trees is one of my favourite places to be!
What do you think? Am I thinking rationally or should I just dive in and do a much bigger one?

I think this pattern would be perfect for you to judge if you like doing a cover-all pattern. I think you will enjoy it.

Another idea to go along with starting with this cover-all project - if you have NOT tried it yet:
start this pattern in the Upper left hand corner (rather than in the middle) of the fabric to give yourself another method of beginning a ‘cover-all’, it is an advantage to know how, especially if you end up tackling a multi-page stitching project. :)

I agree with Bermuda. This would be a perfect one to do as a first time cover all pattern. It is a nice size, and only has 19 colors. I always start my cover all patterns in the upper left hand corner & work to the right & down. However, if you are a 'lefty', you would start in the upper right hand corner, & work to the left & down.

If I am doing something for the first time I always start small. Also this one with not so many different floss colors sounds great. That being said I have never done a cover all pattern so I can't really comment on it that way. I also like the palm trees. Wish I was someplace where they are. Although it is warming up some here.

I am also in the process of stitching my first coverall but I started it in the middle and have organically worked my way through the top half and am now working on the bottom half. It only had 4 pages that I copies and taped together, so it worked that way. I will definitely have to try starting in the upper left corner for one of the more complicated patterns I have with multiple pages. Something new to try :). I am enjoying the coverall pattern although it takes a lot longer to do all those stitches!

Adcoresky, Is the pattern that you are working on --the picture on this chat-- available on this site? It is so pretty! Thank you.

It is similar to SKU 519326 (may actually be the same but the colors look more muted), however the one I have is from Benway. Here is the link to it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Benway-Counted-Beautiful-Flowers-35x52cm/dp/B00MCVC6AC

Adcoresky, Thank you so much. I looked at the other flower patterns and found the muted one and didn't think that was yours. The brighter one looks cheerier... Thanks...

I say JUMP IN, Mary! I tried my first solid cross stitch piece last year, and found it easier than those with negative space because I did not have to count the empty spaces!

One thing I found helpful - make a copy of the pattern and, as you complete each 10x10 square, mark that square off with a highlighter. That method really helped me keep track of where I was when I put the piece down and picked it back up later.

And do post your WIP and your finished piece - it's so much fun to see other stitchers' progress! :)

Since you stated that you are wondering about cover-all patterns, I suggest starting smaller. This one is on the small size but has a lot of color changes - probably as many as 15 to 20 changes in one ten x 10 block using similar shades. ARTECY (MY FAVORITE) has a few smaller cover-all patterns (100 x 100) stitches using as few as 11 different flosses and not as many frequent changes in color.!
