Filigree Star
Any idea if the designer meant this to be a Star of David/Jewish Star? Any 1/4 or 1/2 stitches? Backstitching? I could be very tempted if it wasn't so large.

I don't think the designer's intent is particularly important, it's your intent that makes it what you want. 😊

Nancye, when I look in the center of the star, I can see the Star of David. I believe that was the intent. It's a very pretty piece, I say go for it! :)

The important question was -- Does this pattern have fractional stitches? If so, I would definitely not even think about trying it. I saw a Star of David the moment I looked at it. I was just wondering if that was the designer's intent. If so, did the artist do other more Jewish stuff? At any rate, this is too large for me to consider since I don't have any room on my walls to hang it and no one that I like well enough to put the necessary time and effort.

Nancye, just by looking at the pattern, I would assume that it is all full stitches - no fractionals. The angled lines and curves have the zigzag appearance that would suggest full stitches. Using 1/2 or 1/4 stitches would result in a smoother line or curve, especially if backstitched. There are large areas between the points that are not stitched. This would greatly reduce the amount of stitching to be done to complete the project. With only 4 colors, there is not a bunch of confetti stitches to deal with. I always stitch on 14 count fabric, but if overall size is an issue, you could use 18 count. Personally, it looks like it would be a fun project. Good luck with your decision!

Bruce -- Stitching on 18 count would not make that big a difference in size and would be a big challenge to me. The framing would be expensive. I found a place to hang it. However, it is time for me to start thinking about downsizing. I'm certain that all of my beautiful Judaica needlework will end up homeless.
