What do you stitchers use over dyed and variegated floss for? Although I have some I’ve never used them.

I use variegated for flowers, leaves and anything that would look good with the changing colors. I have some overdyed but haven't used them yet, want to use them on a sampler I am going to make for my sister.

I have wondered about that too. I have them but just look at them sometimes. I use variegated yarn to knit with and whatever I am working on just looks so pretty, but I don't know how or when to use them. By the way, I checked to see what time it is in Denmark so GOOD MORNING MARY. Have a wonder of a day!

I've only used variegated a couple of times and purchased specifically for those projects. Mine also was for landscape and background...but I did use as the ""shadow/sides" of some lettering...hated it and had to remove it. You don't know if you don't try, right? 😁

I’m thinking of using them on this project. I choose it because it’s something I do every day minus a dog. I definitely don’t want the drabness of all the beiges and browns. I was thinking of using one strand of the threads that come with the kit and one strand of a varigated to over dyed to get the effect I want. In some spots I’ll drop the accompanying floss all together. I’ll stitch stitch for stitch as I saw in a video. 🤞. I’ll have to wait now for the floss I ordered to get to me. Any comments and ideas welcome. 👏

Blending of the floss you have won't do? Ensure that the ordered floss "works"... My experiment looked fine on the skein... Not so much broken down. 😊

Mary,
I love your pattern! What is the name of it?
Your idea with the floss sounds great. Have fun with it.

Mary, I am using DMC Variegated Floss #99 on a Rosewood sampler-- Dogwood Lace. The pattern is to be done in one color so I decided to use this color and I really like the softness it shows on the fabric.

Snap mau! That’s the same colour as I’m using at the moment.. isn’t that funny. I’ll send you a photo in a few min.

My use of varigated on the outside horizontal right didn’t work. The colours are fine but the floss is too light and airy for this more rustic linen and Danish flower yarn.
