biting the bullet...
I started a new project a couple months ago and found myself not liking it at all but because of the size of fabric and specialty threads involved I kept pursuing it but today I just looked at it and said "no more". When I have to force myself to sit down and work on a project it just isn't fun and that is what a hobby is supposed to be. I am hoping others on this chat have put projects away and will probably never finish them - I hate being alone in these kinds of decisions. Will just bite the bullet on the cost of the pattern/fabric and specialty threads. The pattern being worked on the fabric was much more drab than the picture led me to believe. Those colors were vibrant and then not so much on the fabric.

Yes I started a kit a few years ago of Monet's water lilies and the colours bare no resemblance to the picture which I liked. I have half finished it but it is now in a box in the spare room and will probably never get finished as I do not like it one bit and can't find the enthusiasm to complete it.

I have done that very thing both in cross stitch and knitting. You are not alone. It is not supposed to feel like it is a chore or a job. All of us have probably even done it with patterns before we even start. When you pick up the project and start, it feels like you are dragging a ball and chain. So, don't feel badly. My mom had different sayings for different subjects. My favorite one is "In 100 years who's going to know the difference." So, is the sky going to fall in-hopefully not in my lifetime (that is my saying.) Pam

I've done it...I have a cross-stitch started that I have no interest in finishing. I also sew and have a coat that I made, but I don't like it at all. I can't get rid of it as I entered it in the County Fair and it won best of show. Since I dislike it, I think I will display it and it's ribbon on a dress form.

So, I have great experience in not finishing something I don't like and finishing something that I don't like. :-)

Tuck it away for the day when all the WIP's are done, all the stash is done, and all the future acquisitions are also finished, then there you go, a project just to pass the time 🤣
As if any of us will get to that point in this lifetime ha ha!

Pat yourself on the back for making such a reasonable decision and look forward to really enjoying your next project. I give my bad choice kits or charts to our local charity shop and hope in the saying that one man's poison is another man's honey.

I started one and had to put it away, maybe forever. I don't like to leave things unfinished or waste materials so I understand how you feel. My time to stitch is very limited, it just didn't make sense to not enjoy it. Have fun with your new project..

Thank you ladies for your support. During the night I decided to cut off the area where I had stitched as I know I am never ever going to finish it. By cutting it off I will have a nice larger piece of fabric for another project - no use putting it in a drawer and never use. Thanks again.

Another good decision clipatt. I get my best ideas while lying in bed early in the morning, just before I get up.

I have gone one further. I had a ornament that I was working on. A kit from Dimensions. I had it almost completed and I decided not to finish it because thread quality was bad and I had made so many mistakes that I was having trouble following what I was supposed to do. I had one color to cross stitch and the backstitching and I would have been done. It went in the UFO pile and I don't thing I will ever pick it up again.

Once I purchased a partially finished piece at a thrift shop because it was a pattern I knew my mom-in-law would love. I don't make a habit of purchasing such things, but that one time it was perfect. You could always try a thrift shop - one never knows who might see it and want to take up the craft. :)
