stitching
Is the entire background stitched? If so, with full or half-cross stitches?

138 x 240 stitch count. On 32- ct IceBlue Belfast Linen. Looks like all full cross stitches. Interesting design.

it is stitched on Ice Blue Belfast, so the entire background may not be stitched,....can't really tell from the picture. The pattern does say it includes some 3/4 and some 1/2 stitches.

Miss Kitty is correct there are some 3/4 and 1/2 stitches in this pattern. The model is stitched on 32ct. Ice blue Belfast Linen over 2 threads and is 8 1/2 inches x 15 inches finished. The background is not entirely stitched. I checked the floss list and the only DMC floss color that uses more than one skein is #822 which is Light Beige Gray. There are different shades of blue in the background. Don't forget to add 3 inches on a side when deciding the size of fabric to purchase.

Is that a ghost woodpecker under the real one? What's that about? Looks very eerie!!!

My husband is a nature photographer and loves birds. I'd love to do one of these for him along with a cardinal. But this one kinda scares me! LOL. But beautiful otherwise.

Hi J.....these are based on the artwork of Sue Coleman, a Canadian artist. She incorporates Native art into her work based on the style of the Pacific North West native culture. In each of her animal pictures, she paints the subject and also the Native spirit of the animal....the one you are calling the 'ghost' in this style.

Her art is internationally renowned and reproduced in all forms. I love her cross-stitch interpretations. There are also lots of other birds in her gallery...maybe there would be another one your DH would like.

I intend to do a whole set of her pictures at some point...lol.

Because of what you said of her animals being their "Spirit", I will definitely do it. What a wonderful thing to do!

Thank you Miss Kitty for enlightening me!

Thanks Miss Kitty for explaining the extra woodpecker. I was wondering about it. I really like this pattern, but have too many now. I enjoy learning about different designers.
