Recommendations?
Hello! I'm new to online cross stitch shopping and I was looking for a recommendation on pattern brands/companies. I've been cross stitching until now using old patterns purchased from my local used bookstore. Now that the bookstore closed, I have no source for new patterns and I thought I'd try online. But it seems like a lot of brands are just taking photographs and using computer software to make a pattern with just cross-stitch, no other stitches. They do look like complicated patterns, but I'm not sure how they turn out. Does anyone feel like they're missing detail by not having back stitches for outlining or knots for a little texture? I hesitate to try this "pointillist style".

Anyways, can anyone recommend a company that does advanced patterns? Anything similar to the Dimmensions gold kits would be great. Thanks for your help!

I don't know how well done these designs are since the charts are in black and white. I have never done an Artecy pattern, but of their landscape and scenic patterns that are done from photographs. this one falls into that category. Artecy says it is from a photograph and only uses full cross stitches. I have found when patterns are done from photographs they definitely have a different look to them than the photograph. Perhaps someone on this forum has done one of Artecy's photograph patterns and can give you better advice. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Most if not all, of these art-type cross stitch charts are done in pointillist style which means they are made up of small dots ( in this case x's) of colour. When seen up close they just look like random blotches, but when you step back and look from a distance, they blend into a picture. So- your cross-stich will never look just like the photograph, it will be an interpretation of the photograph. The smaller the size stitched, the more detail and the more realistic the picture. Larger sizes tend to be more blurry...but they would all look nice when displayed on a wall.

The Artecy pictures are supposed to be pictures of the item as it looks after it is cross stitched. These patterns when worked are very, very close to the pattern shown in the picture. Some of their patterns are real good and some aren't but the picture shows what it will look like, good or bad. Just look close. I'm doing one of their patterns called "Barn on Crystal Springs Road". I"m about two thirds through with it and it is one of the best patterns I've ever done. It is a real beauty and looks just like the picture. Check it out. The picture is identical in color and all else to the finished embroidery. It is a hard pattern to work but well worth it.

Thanks jclifford for posting how to get on to post pictures. One of these days I am going to try to do it so I can post some of the ones I have hanging in my house. Most projects I give away so I don't have a lot to post. If I get is figured out I will start posting before I give them away. Right now I have so much to get done before Christmas for gifts - both cross stitching and quilting. Have a good day.

So how do we see the pictutes that are posted? You know I'm an old stitcher and know little about 'puters. My computer engineer technological spouse won't teach me! Help!
