Waste canvas is a material it is a fabric you have to basted with the garment that you want your cross stitch to show on it the design that you want to add to it. after basting the material and you do the design on it you soak it in water and then you take it out and with a a pair of twizzers you take the thread one at a time from it.

Waste Canvas is a canvas stitching material that you use when you want to stitch a design on a garment or any other type of sewing fabric such as cotton or polyester. You can pin or baste it in position on your garment or fabric. When you are done stitching you wet the fabric and the waste canvas threads come out and you are left with the design you stitched on the garment. I have done a couple of projects using it, and turned out fine. Hope this helps.

Waste canvas comes in different thread counts. 13 would make your design come out bigger than 18, since you use the canvas threads to place your X's.
