My Disappearance
Hello everyone - I've missed you all so much!!!! My old computer finally died (I didn't) so I decided to buy a new one. The salesman said he had two that were being returned because they didn't fit on a shelf the customer had built. They'd never been used, just taken out of the box, so he couldn't sell them as new and I could have one for $350. Good deal, I thought. I left the old computer and told him to transfer everything to the new one and a week later I went in to see if it was ready. It wasn't but I decided to pay him at that time. BIG MISTAKE! He's had both computers for over 2 1/2 months and about a zillion excuses on why my new one wasn't ready. He promised me last week that he would deliver it to my place on Saturday. He never showed so I thought he'd call Sunday - NO - Monday - NO - and finally on Tuesday, I called and told whoever answered that my husband would be in to pick it up. He had been with me every time I went in so I knew they'd know him too. He said the little jerk gave him the computer, smiled and told him that if we had any trouble with it, to just bring it in. Like I ever want to see his smiling face again. I'm still contemplating writing the Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. Grrrrrrrrrrr! Anyway, I have my new computer now and am gradually figuring out how to use it.

jclifford: how did you do at the State Fair! I had made a notation on the calendar but of course had no computer to ask you on the 14th. Hope you got ribbons.

I guess you've been wondering how the glads are doing. Well, I've had lots of time to stitch with no computer in residence. You will probably remember that Gladiola I is finished and framed. Gladiola II is finished and at the framer. Gladiola III has just a few more stitches to go and it will be finished and off to the framer too. If I finish it tonight, it took me 46 days. Now that I have the computer, Gladiola IV will no doubt take me a bit longer. No, I'm not sick of stitching Gladiolas yet so I think I'll make it. For those of you who wonder what on earth I'm talking about, I'm stitching four (48" x 14") Gladiola pictures - one for each of my grown kids because their grandfather raised glads for about 30 years and they've been asking for a glad picture forever. It's a surprise for them and so far, I don't think they have a clue. Thank goodness they all live elsewhere so they don't drop in on me while I'm stitching!

I also stitched a Precious Moments picture for my new little great-grandchild, Maverick Colt, who arrived on August 24th. One of the first things I saw on the new computer was that picture, hanging on the wall, with the other two I've made for my granddaughter's family. Also baby pictures of the new arrival. Fun!

Enough for now. Glad to be back in circulation again.

So good to hear from you. We were worried!! Exceptionally bad computer mess, & I've heard some bad ones. I own 2 tablets & rarely get on the PC now. I'm keeping up on my emails & the chat room, while enjoying morning coffee & evening snack. I highly recommend a tablet for you, Senior Stitcher, & everyone, except maybe Tex, who would get a tired finger typing her detailed replies. Hurray for the glads!! Are they all framed alike?

jlhughes: I did look waaaaaay back in the chat room entries and noticed that everyone was asked if they'd heard from me. So nice to know I was missed. It was very frustrating, to say the least.

In answer to your framing question. The glads will all be framed exactly alike. When the framer figured out the size they would be, she said she would have to order extra large matting and extra large glass to do them. She said she could get two pictures framed out of each so she gave me 30% off on the matting and the glass! It was still expensive ($125. each) but I can put them on my credit card and get them paid off before the next one goes on. It's working so far.

Senior Stitcher so glad to have you back!!!! I contacted Jennifer here at ECS to see if she could e-mail you and find out how you were, but she said she never got anything back. Now I know why. I was so worried about you and I prayed a lot for you that you had not "passed". I am so glad my prayers were answered and you are still with us. I know computer problems are bad, but what I worried about was worse. LOL

Glad you are still working on the Gladolia project. Keep up the good work. Look forward to hearing more from you since you got your computer back. I would have gone nuts if I had not had my laptop for that long. I do my banking, pay bills and Skype with my grandkids on mine. Have a good week.

syagel: Thank you for your concern and your prayers. I figured that people were going to thinkl I had passed since I disappeared so suddenly. I'd been having computer problems for awhile but all of a sudden it just wouldn't do anything. It was one of the old XP's so it needed replacing anyway. I was told that my server could go through it for $35. and tell me what was wrong but when I brought it in, the woman at the desk first asked me if I was there to recycle it and when I mentioned the $35. deal, she just said, "oh, they're not even going to want to SEE this one in the back!" I wasn't upset, she just saved me $35. That's when I went looking for a new computer.

I don't do any banking or bill-paying on the computer. My daughter did and when it crashed, she didn't know what was paid and what wasn't and it cost her hundreds in overdrafts to get it all sorted out. I took that as a lesson learned. I do order things now and then and haven't had any trouble with that but I sure was frustrated to not get emails, etc.

Thanks again for your concern - I expect to be around for awhile and the new computer had better last as long as I do!

You have a good week too.

misfit2day: I don't think we've even met before so it was really nice to see that you were concerned over my disappearance. Seems like forever that I've been gone from here. Hope you're enjoying the chat room - everyone is so nice and so helpful.

Thanks again.

My goodness, Glad you are back. Everyone was worried about you!
Glad it was only a computer problem but computers can be such a pain!
I learned a looonng time ago to put no more than 1/2 my money down on anything to prevent the jerks who promise the moon from making any kind of excuse as to why they can't follow thru with what they say they will do.
One of my biggest gripes is the sales personnel at a certain big-time building supply store that will have 2 -3 salespersons walk right past you and not even ask if they can offer some assistance. I started seeing a pattern whereas if both my husband and I walked in together, we had someone ask if we needed help within 5 minutes of entering the store; but if I walked in by myself then it was like I wasn't even there.

Senior Stitcher: I AM SO GLAD YOU ARE OKAY!!!! Lady, you had us so worried. We all prayed that it was computer problems. Thank God our prayer were answered.

EVERYONE: Let's all promise that if anything happens to us that a member of our family come on this site and let everyone know what is going on!!! I know that Life goes on, but the wondering and hoping and not knowing is just cruel and heartbreaking. I MAKE MY PROMISE NOW. How about you TX Stitcher, JHewes and Syagel? Misfit2, everyone else??

I didn't place at the State Fair Sr. Stitcher. I'm only disappointed for my co-worker in whom I gave the stitching to. But I'm not giving up, starting January, I will start on my next project to the Fair.

So glad you are with us.

P.S. Post your new grandbaby and the newly framed glad on our website. Do you remember the login and password?
