Dimension Designs
I also love the details of Dimension designs, but they NEVER put enough of their threads in to complete the project! They say they don't use DMC thread but you can order more from them if you run out. I ALWAYS run out! I have successfully matched MOST colors with DMC, but there are a few CRITICAL colors that you just cannot match!

IF YOU HAVE A CONVERSION CHART OF DIMENSION THREAD COLORS TO DMC COLORS I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE HAVING IT! PLEASE TELL ME WHERE TO GET IT.

I, too, find that this thread frays and breaks easily, especially if you have to remove stitches.

Thinking of doing this one for my granddaughters but see a NIGHTMARE of trying to replace threads I run short on!

Ditto your other post. Don't try to add DMC floss to Dimensions floss. However, if you want, you can replace all the floss before you begin. Cyberstitchers.com has a substitution chart. You will need to figure how much of each color Dimensions has supplied & order a little more. Or, if the color is very little used, you may want to keep that color.

I must be the exception to the rule. I have done several Dimensions kits and have never run out of floss nor had any problem with their floss. I did Maggie The Messmaker several years ago because I am a Charles Wysocki fan. I have several of his paintings and puzzles as well as cross stitch patterns. I had extra floss left over when I was done with this kit. It turned out beautifully and still hangs on my wall.

Cyberstitchers.com has several different conversion charts. I have them all copied off and in a binder with my patterns so I can refer to them quickly if I need to.

I totally agree with you. Some of the tricks I have discovered are, you can switch out all of the dimension floss with DMC floss before you start the project. Dont try and use DMC floss to fill in gaps where you have run out of dimensions floss, there is some color variances. The second thing I tried was not to use as many strands as dimensions suggests. If they recommend 5 strands, I normally just use 2. The difference in the depth of the stich from 2 as compared to 5 isn't that noticeable.

This is the very reason why I try to stay away from kits. Although I have seen patterns that are tempting. I like control over my projects and don't see the point of paying for fabric and floss that I will be replacing. I've had some close calls with floss. It takes several days to receive additional floss from them and when you are under time pressure it's a hassle. I have to say that Dimensions is very good about sending extra floss for free. I emailed theml and they sent me all that I needed. Usually they give enough unless one makes mistakes. I don't like to stitch with little tiny scraps of floss and am probably being too wasteful which causes the shortage in my case. Good luck.
PS Isn't going from 5 strand to 2 a bit drastic? Maybe 4??
