Hi there.

You need a lot of tools. 1) hammer: 2) Cardboard for the backing. 3)Wrapping brown paper and if it is small designs and you want to add first the glace then a the mat then your cross stitch inside and then the cardboard backing and after sticking tape ( brown) then some nails. then the wrapping paper that you cut exactly the measurement of the frame and Some glue to stick the brown paper with it. Good luck with your project.

For framing a project for this frame all you need is a sticky board for mounting, a piece of cardboard for the backing, and some wide tape for holding the cardboard on the back. if a hanger doesn't come with it you will need to purchase one. Hope this helps.

Wow! Complicated. Amazon, JoAnns, etc have simple framing books. Better not try glass at first. It needs special treatment with needlework.

The first step is to mount your fabric on foam or sticky foam board just a hair smaller than the inside edge of the frame. Cut the board with a box knife run along a straight edge to keep the cut straight. Mount your needlework nice & straight. Buy some framing tape to tape the extra fabric to the backside of the board.

Next steps coming up if needed.

jlhewes: What special needs are needing for glassing in a framed needwork? I'm confused. All mine are encased in glass. So far I haven't had any negative results, but if I need to do something, I would like to do it now, before anything happens to them. Please let me know.

Thanks.

I never use glass for my framed projects. In all my years of stitching I have only used glass 1 time. When folding the fabric over the sticky board I always cut the extra fabric so it isn't bunched up under the backing piece. Be sure to use a good quality framing tape.

Syagel
I always trim fabric even with sticky board (after placing on board) so the is no "extra" to fold under.. comments please

Syagel, is the framing tape you refer to, the same as linen tape?

The frame-it-yourself store said mildew could happen when the glass got cold & condensed moisture onto the fabric. A woman in the EGA chapter had it happen & used to bring the piece to show us a bad example.

Mats eliminate this by creating air space. Framers have square acrylic dowels they stick to the edges of the glass -- called spacers. I used large beads in the corners once for a Sudberrg tray. Didn't like the look.

I don't think it happens often & wouldn't worry. Sudberry sells their trays & patterns all the time. You could always take the piece apart & wash the fabric with a drop of bleach.

What I meant was the same as what you said. I always trim my extra fabric before I tape it to the back of my sticky board. The tape that I found that works best for me is extra heavy duty and wide mailing tape. It is clear and sticks as good as anything I have found.

SYagel, I can't believe you use mailing/package tape. It won' t last. Haven't you ever taken down some Christmas, or other, old boxes & noticed the package tape adhesive had dried out & the tape yellowed? You can get framing tape from Aaron Bros, Herrschner's, etc. Granted, I haven't ripped apart any old pictures lately, but it's supposed to last & be acid free.
