Floss numbers
I find it confusing in trying to sort out the colors of floss that are included in the kit. The floss numbers in the instructions don't always match up with DMC color numbers. Normally DMC 'Black' is number 301. Yet on the instructions 'Black' is number 2001 (which is not listed in the DMC guide). Many of the numbers they give on the instructions I can't find in the DMC color guide.

It is confusing, especially when they don't pre-sort for you. Don't expect DMC. Quite often they'll supply 36" lengths & tell you how many pieces you should find. Spread them out in good light & figure out if such &such are Lt. yellow, med. yellow, purple or what.

Some substitute for DMC from the start from a cyberstiter.com chart & toss the kit floss. Some don't buy kits.

Bucilla should have done that by labeling the floss for you. That what it should be in the kit. by numbers and colors name.

Take your time or else call where you had got your kit and let them know they may give you another one.
Good luck again.

Bucilla has its own floss colors. It is not DMC floss. Like Jlhewes said I would line them up on a table with good light and then sort them and label them. They should have a chart with your pattern to tell you how many strands of a certain color there are. This should help a lot. This is one of the reasons I don't buy kits anymore.

When it comes to colors like DMC black I just write black on my plastic bobbin not #310.

I found the website that has a conversion chart (cyberstitch.com) to DMC colors. This will now be so much easier! Thanks for the help.

I ran off copies of all the DMC conversion charts from Cyberstitchers.com a long time ago. I keep them all together in a binder so if I need them I can find them. Keeps them handy for me.

I STRONGLY agree about the floss in the kits. I recently purchased a kit from Bucilla called Afternoon Nap. The floss that came with the kit was an absolute rat's nest! I should have taken it back. Floss was jumbled in the package. The strands were not label. There was a list of colors listed on the chart by number. How in the h.....l is one suppose to match up these unlabeled strands with the numbers!? Very frustrating to say the least. Stupid me, should have just taken it back. But I am going to try my best to separate the mess. Thank you for letting me vent my frustrations:-)

I gotta say, that I hate sorting kits floss messes....another reason I prefer kitting up my patterns and choosing my own floss and fabric....among a whole bunch of other reasons. Wasteful as it may seem, I never save leftover kit floss. If I run out of a color, I contact the kit manufacturer and drive them crazy until they send what I need.

But...I found two Bothy kits from Britain and had to have them! Shock of shocks, they were here in a week and the the threads are all neatly sorted and tidy. A bit pricey, so I feel badly for our stitchy compatriots in England because they pay so dearly for supplies!

I remember trying to sort the mess of Threads. I realized that I wouldn't mind spending the extra money for the DMC colors just to make my life easier. Other than the thread mess, the pattern will be a good winter project!
