Loved this pattern/kit
I made this up for a friend at work. Her mom had this in her stash of things to do. Mom passed away before friend's sister was due to have her baby. I offered to stich whatever they wanted up. They picked this. It is totally adorable. Although I didn't realize at the time there is a lot of shading so it did take longer then I anticipated. I made a few changes. Because I can't do a French knot to save my soul, I used black beads for any eyes and iridescent beads for the water drops. I also added an angle charm below the statistics as a nod to grandma. It turned out so nice I'd definitely do this one again.

I agree, it is a great piece. I HATE French Knots and avoid them like the plague. I would definitely use beads as long as the piece will be hanging on the wall. Changing the shading or anything else is always allowed and makes for uniqueness. Do not worry about anyone calling the CrossStitch police!

I agree with both of you. I HATE French knots and avoid them all the time. Like Nancye G said you can do what you want with a pattern and the "cross stitch police" will not put you away. If they did I would have been in Cross Stitch jail a long time ago. LOL Very pretty project.

Yeah the cross stitch police would have hauled me away a long time ago it they enforced the directions.

I heard that there is a special section in the jail just for us cross-stitchers. Lots of wall space to hang our stuff. One shopping trip a week to the local craft store. They also have special lighting so that all of us with bad eyes can see perfectly and special needles for those of us with arthritis and carpal tunal to work with no impairments.

Hmm -- sounds like cross stitch heaven!!!

I feel french knot is only for needlework not for cross stitching. That is my opinion. I like this pattern I would have done it for my children so my grand children.

I feel French knots are punishment. And I've never mastered their big cousin Colonial knots at all. I've been punished,in fact. Told my Mom I'd stitch any pattern for her as a gift. Of course, she chose one with flowers made with French knots. I suspected God had a sense of humor & was sure of it then.

oh God sure does have a sense of humor. I often picture him sitting up on a cloud with the angles and saying 'Watch this!! Let's see how she reacts to this.' Then sending some crazy issue for me to deal with.....like French notes!!
