Hello,I notice that many of your patterns call for 28 or 32 ct. evenweave fabrics. I have poor eye sight and try to work patterns on 14ct aida or 16ct. Is is ok to use the 14 or 16 ct to substitute for the smaller count of fabrics. I love your patterns. thanks so much. Norma King at jenorma2@att.net

Hi, I'm assuming you want to work the designs you like on 14 or 16 aida fabric rather than the 28-count or 32 count linen. Lets just say that you find a pattern you really like but it shows the pattern is being done on 28 count linen and you want to do it on 14 count aida. On 14 count aida you would do the pattern by going stitching "over 1" square. If I wanted to do the SAME pattern on 28-count linen, I would stitch "over 2" squares". The same thing goes for 32-count patterns, just divide the pattern number (32) in half, which gives you 16, then stitch the pattern on 16-count "OVER 1 square".
If I did the same pattern on 28-count that you do on 14-count, our patterns would come out to be the SAME size because you are going "over 1" on the aida, while I am going "over 2" on the linen.
Hope this helps! Also, if you go to the "Cross Stitch Fabric" sub-menu in the box to your left, you can use the fabric calculator to help you take it to the Count you want. Have fun!

The only problem with Aida are the partial stitches. Fellow blogger SYagel uses sharp needles so she can pierce between the holes for 1/4 & 3/4 stitches.
