removing ink from stamped items
I was using Dip-it to remove the ink from stamped items I have crosstitched. It is no longer being sold (the new stuff has limeaway in it). I have tried clorox prewash, dipit powder, hot water, cold water and the stamped marks are still on the fabric. What does everyone else use to remove the ink. It seems like a year or so ago they have made the ink more permanent. Can someone out there help?

The ink is on a 60x90 inch table cloth that I stitched over the ink. I need something that wont hurt the cloth or the floss I used to stitch it with. this is the one I did but changed the colors of the owls.

It would be nearly impossible to go over each stitch with something to get the ink out.

Thanks

I thought all stamped items used ink that came out in the wash. I've stitched 2 & both certainly did come clean. ??

I have done stamped items and the ink has always come out after washing it in cool water and ivory dish soap. After all the time and effort you put into making the tablecloth, I think you should at least get your money back. My problem has always been not to get the cloth wet so the ink won't smear when working on it.

Thanks for responding. They have changed the ink that its printed with. These have been Craftways from Herrschners. Did you soak your things in the Ivory with water? How much did you use. I suppose I could give it one more try to get the ink out. The last few things I have made the ink just wont come out in plain washing. I started this in late November and finished it early this month. Its a gift for a friend.

I agree with Cory, I would try the Ivory dish soap first and see what kind of success you have. I would take just one corner of your project where there is the ink and let it soak for a bit. Like Cory, I did a few stamped things (probably before they changed the ink) and didn't have any trouble soaking the ink out of them.

I've had the opposite problem, keeping the ink on the fabric long enough for me to finish stitching.

The ink that you describe was used at least 60 years ago and you had to be very careful to cover the stamped area completely. I remember this from when my mother stitched table cloths. Is it possible that your project is an older one? As far as I know nothing will take that particular ink out. I would contact the company that you bought it from. Hopefully, they have an answer for you.

I don't like stamped projects all that much. They are almost up there with kits.

Good luck.

Oh, be careful with chlorine products (my favorite) so the floss doesn't change colors.

I inherited a wonderful cross stitch that my aunt did many years ago. It not only had its stamped ink survive washing, but the heavy nicotine stains won't come out either. Going to try again. I really want to save it, as she did it in the 40s, when she work as an artist for the Pentagon. I have a great photo of her with admirals around a big table with the Pacific Ocean painted on top of b it. They are pushing model ships around the ocean with long dowels, planning strategy.

Sue,
Good morning. Read your post. I found Orvis and Restoration as two products that can be used on cross stitch products to clean them. Just a thought when you mentioned about the stains. I can NOT say I've tried either of these two products yet, but have had both products recommended to me from other sittchers. The Restoration is more expensive to buy than the Orvis; but when I get my nickels and dimes together, I'm going to try the Orvis first.
Hope this helps!

Hi there. I tried the Ivory Dish soap but the ink is still in there. Tomorrow its going on its way to NY to my friend. Ill tell here there is warm Florida air in the box also.

It seems they are using permanent ink now in the table cloth. I sure wish company's wouldnt improve on stuff they make that works good on something.

I would like to thank all of you for your information. Good luck cleaning the item of your aunts. Its wonderful you have a picture of her around the big long table with the sticks pushing small boats around. I remember seeing newsreels of things like that. Thats when the movie theaters had news.

Thanks again
