When it said cross stitch it is mostly for Aida cloth

These are darling. Description calls for DMC floss so that suggests fabric to me. Count is about 83 stitches in each direction. That would be 6" x 6" stitching area on 14 count and you would need 12" x 12" fabric for framing. If you are thinking about doing the complete alphabet it would cost over $100 just for the patterns!

I think it would be a fun project.

Thank you. I was hoping someone had tried it out on canvas because I would like to make them so my grand children could play with them and learn the alphabet. I will just have to experiment a little.

My mother did lots of stitching on plastic canvas when she got older. I know there are a lot of plastic canvas patterns for the alphabet out there. I have seen several at JoAnn Fabrics. You can also Google it and find more. I am sure there has to be websites for plastic canvas just like cross stitching and quilting. Hope this helps.

Syagel and I are definitely on the same wave length. I wouldn't try those monster letters on plastic canvas. I think that they would lose their cuteness. Making alphabet shaped letters on plastic canvas is a great idea for the grandkids. You could jazz them up by using different colors. You could make different color combinations. Cut the canvas to the exact shape of the individual letter. You just cut out squares and stitch a letter inside of the square. I would suggest making extra vowels and other letters so the kids can make up words. Don't lose the pattern -- just in case the kids "lose" one of the letters. Sounds like a fun and easy project.

What if you made an aida "book"....several letters on a "page".....I don't even know the sizes of these...thought just popped in. They are so fun....there should be a pamphlet of these...

Sorry, rambling thought morning....
