Thanks Nancye almost done with the first step
I am working on a baby quilt, embroidery blocks. Almost done with the abc picture pattern blocks. I am changing some of the letter pictures that I didn't like and am really enjoying the experience so far.
I picked up a pen from Nancye's quilt store she recommended, it is working great. Some of the changes I made included jam to jelly fish, pencil to pig, key to kangaroo. I was able to draw my pictures with the water pen. I chose the one that lasts longer than a few hours. Nancye thanks for the heads up on the differences.
I was also able to find fabric (soft mint green with lighter dots) that will frame the quilt blocks and ties the quilt blocks with the back fabric that was an impulse buy a few weeks ago (hobby lobby abc fabric themed). The women at Janielou's were very helpful and fun to work with. They had great suggestions.
I am looking forward to putting the top together. I may even try those fun points along the edges. I don't have the vocabulary down but, I think I am understanding the concepts and have some quits that grandmothers have made as samples.
I will also be going back in the chat. I think there was good info you all shared back in late January. Thank you all for your help. I am having such fun making this for my first grandbaby. Thanks Nancye for the quilt shop info. I told the women there that a "Chat" friend recommended them. : )

GREAT -- I am happy that you are happy. You should have told them my name. Or, they know me as the yarmulke lady. Glad to throw business their way. I bought a glue pen there. Not crazy about it. Not their fault, I had decided in advance that I wanted to try it.

I told them I only knew you as "Nancy". Next time you go in, you can mention that you heard I was in. I am Gail.

what are you using a glue pen for?

xstitcher - I saw this glue stick on line. It is supposed to replace the need for using straight pins to hold fabric together. Just apply it to your fabric and than put on the piece and sew. You would have perfect seams and the glue would dissolve. Sounded like an AS SEEN ON TV commercial. Well, I liked the pen so much I got the glue. I guess I am too uncoordinated because I just could not get the pieces to match up without a whole lot of effort and cursing. I have found a better solution. I bought some clips from Clover that look like tiny red clothes pins. They make clipping my pieces together better than straight pins and are easy to remove as I sew.

I have some spray adhesive that is repositional and short term. Use to use it when I was teaching elementary school to alter clothes for theme days and then pull it apart later. ie. black dots on white sweatshirt for 101 days of school (101 dalmations), Suess Day, Halloween. It works fine for this and never left any residue after washing. I thought I may as well just use it up.
Do you think this is ok? Should I just pin all the pieces as I work on the quilt top?
Since this is my first attempt.... I could use an opinion or 2 : )

Gail -- I'm glad that store is still in business. I never went back because I stopped sewing. They were extremely helpful.
