Bunkersue, Dickens is very handsome!! When I clicked on the picture, I also clicked on the "You might also like these button". There is also a Blue Heeler available. They recommend 14 Count White Aida cloth for that. I have never stitched a dog, but my personal feeling is a light background will make the dog "pop out" so to speak. Good luck!

Wichelt 14 count aida has 59 colors to choose from if you go to the "Cross Stitch Fabric" sub-menu on the left. They have some nice looking light color aida that you mind find attractive for your black lab pattern.
