New project to start
I purchased this pattern and can hardly wait to get started on it... not sure what color background to use though. I like 14 count Aida, perhaps a pale blue or a speciality color like a multi colored Aida

I have never tried working with black Aida , but it might be stunning on a dark cloth.

Hi,
I agree with lorritcat about black background. Would really make those colors "pop"!
But YOU are the one that is doing the cross stitching work so other colors you like will work just as well.
I'm a bit prejudice when it comes to using black fabric on some patterns, even with bad eyes (cataracts). I love using black fabric, though I do my black on 28-count (bad eyes or not!)
Let us know what background color you decide! Whatever background color you choose, it's sure to be a beautiful design when you have it finished!

May I suggest a silver or grey?

Silver and gray would really look nice. Good idea Cory!

I think the silver or gray would be better because it appears that there are some very dark greens that may not pop! I would get the floss and hold it up to fabrics to see how much it stands out, for the darker colors...it is a design begging to stand out!

I tend to agree with Su. I am not a fan of black fabric or anything dark because it's difficult to stitch on. What color does the pattern recommend?

Silver or grey sounds great! I took a closer look at the pattern, and the spines might disappear on black..

The project calls for white Aida - 14 ct and is about 32 x 16 inches- fairly large! A light grey with silver thru it would be a great background - so would a light multi background.. will have to look for a large piece of aida cloth.

The have gorgeous fabrics. Their "crystal" fabrics all have silver in them. If you look at all their fabrics and still can't decide, write to their customer service. Marilyn there will offer so mm e suggestions. If you tellike her where you are buying the design or if you send her a picture of its cover photo, she will look at it a n d go from there. They are so helpful. I also like Weeks Dye Works. Both their floss and fabric are colofast, as is PTP's fabric.

Good luck. Let us see what you do!
