measure twice, cut once
Well stitchers,
I did it.. had a project that finished would be 12 x 12.. measured fabric & cut it..
tonite I realized I cut it 15 x 15 instead of 18 x 18..
Sooo, tonite instead of stitching (need another piece of fabric) I ripped, about 60 x 60 stitches..
can use fabric for another project..

Remember, to THINK twice, cut once! lol
good nite & happy stitching

BEEN THERE -- DONE THAT
Posted by: NANCYE G on 03/26/15
I know how you feel. I came very close to doing this with one of the Victorian Santa's I was making. I know that if you allow 3" on each side plus the top and bottom that it is 6" you need to add. Well, I don't know, phones were ringing...something, but I only added 3" total for the sides, top and bottom. I came very, very close to cutting. My husband happened to walk by and asked me "How do you figure the calculations when you do that?" So, I showed him. I told him that I needed 3" each side, he noticed that it looked "short". When I re-measured, sure enough, I had forgotten the additional 3". Now, I actually write it out on paper (sort of like a 1st grader!) with the size of the project's width + 6 inches. Same thing for the height of the picture. This way, I know I won't mess it up. Good luck as you begin again. We are all just human beings! This is one of the few times when our "minds eye" can trick us!

OH YESS! THE old "OH ....!" number for not having measured twice and cut once. And like the rest of you out there, it's my not adding enough for the framing. I take it as a lesson learned and recalculate my math (on paper) a second or third time (or 4th) before I start grabbing the scissors......

Lesson learned!!!!!

Dbye-

Just another been there done that and to make sure that you know that most of us have done this at one time or another due to distraction, interruption, miscalculation, fatigue. I did it and stitched the whole design (luckily it was just ornament size) with 1 1/2" border all around and didn't realize until I was done. Like you said, you live and learn.

That's OK...when I read the 15x15, I thought, "But that would be right." LOL. And I would bet pattern money I wasn't the only one! :)

Ooooops, done that. I had stitched the entire top of a sampler and when I did the boarder on the side, I realized......... It was a sad day. Especially since that was my second attempt. The first time I used 28 ct and then thought that it looked too small, so I bought 25 ct and decided to cut it down because it seemed too large. It's still in my container. Oh well.

VCESS, you are correct - it sounded right to me at first. Then I had to laugh ........

dbye, don't despair, it's just a piece of fabric and the stitching you have done was practice. Sometimes it helps to cut the entire thing into tiny pieces.

I ripped all the stitches out last nite.. couldn't sew, so I ripped . lol
Did you ever get the feeling, well I should give up? tonite I started over.. oh, I cut the fabric right..
but twice I had to take out stitches, not a lot but stupid little mistakes... guess the tv was distracting me.. but I always stitch & listen.. guess tonite I was listening, not stitching..

another lesson learned..
good nite ladies..
