any quilt kit
What does the back side look like when completed? Anything creative to make it look better than the back of a stitch project?

Good question. I have seen one or two complete but the raw back is always exposed. The stitchers were very careful to make the back "clean" but it was still raw. several months ago there was a discussion on English vs. ? stitching. This may make a difference on how the back looks. The 2 choices were based on the question- do you cross as you go or do you make several right stitches then return doing left stitches. This may change the way the back looks.

Hopefully someone that recalls the chat will be able to help you.

Some line the back with a fusible, or use fabric & quilt it.

I got a kit in the mail. It's of a different material that I actually stitch between the material. So glad I don't have to worry about the back side of it now......thank you for replies!!

In Colonial Days there was a Reversible Cross Stitch. I think it had 4 1/2 legs, but I dont remember much else. I have 2 quilts in the stash & will research it when/if I get to them.

When I do a quilt from a kit I go to Joanns and get material to match what I have done. Sometimes its only polka dots or stripes to match the colors. 1 1/4 yard usually does the trick. A lot of times I find babys for a baby one or bears what ever is on the front. Wild Thing that I did I found a jungle print that matched almost exactly.

I pin the right sides together and sew around the edge. Trim off the excess and turn it right side out. I then stitch around the edge again.

This makes for a nice back to compliment the front and covers up all the stitches on the back of the blanket. One blanket I had had a lot of seperate x's on it so when I got done I took yarn instead of doing the x's and tied knots there and also made another on the back side after I got the backing on. It was really cute.
