If I change the count from 14 to 9 what size fabric do I need and what size will the end product be?

Hi,
I would STRONGLY suggest that you follow Krist's suggestion about calling to see if you can get the EXTRA floss you need from the "kit" company. If you intend to make the project larger, then you will no doubt need more floss and some companies will be willing to sell you extra fabric and some won't.
If you run out of the floss that comes with the kit and switch over to another floss such as DMC or Anchor, the floss colors may very well NOT match your original floss.

I'm not worried about having enough floss. I just want to know what size fabric to buy.

Divide the number of stitches vertically and horizontally. The result will be the stitching area in inches. Then add six inches vertical and six inches horizontal

For example: Assume the stitching area is 81 x 90

81 divided by 9 is 9
90 divides by 9 is 10

The new stitching area is now 9 inches x 10 inches

Add six inches each way. that comes to 15 inches x 16 inches. That is the amount of fabric you need. If you are using 9 ct fabric you will also need a thicker thread. Embroidery floss probably would not cover well.

Thanks, Nancye G
The original kit piece is 11x14. I figured if I got a 24x28 (estimated) piece of 9 count aida, that would work and use three strands instead of two.
What do you think?

Maybe 4 strands. Some use 3 strands on 14 count. Just do test squares on the edge.

I agree with jlhewes. Try 4 strands. I haven't used 9ct but I think you would need better coverage. DMC makes a perle thread that is a little thicker. I used it a lot when I did needlepoint. Colors are brighter and very pretty.
