Where to start....
I am seeing that some people start in the center of the pattern where others start in the upper left corner. What do you suggest?

Also, I am conflicted on the stitching.. do I do my row with //// first, then go back to finish the stitch, or do I do each X first...

Help!

Thanks, Lisa

I find the middle and then count up and to the top left to begin. That feels like the beginning to me. Others do start in the middle so I think it's a personal choice.

As far as the stitches go, I was taught to do the ////// stitches first if you're stitching from left to right and then go back to cross them. If you are doing stitches from top to bottom, you should do the complete X each time.

Senior Stitcher, I start in the center....probably more from habit than any other reason...first group of color goes up and left from center....always.

I agree with the stitching also....I tried completing the x's the last couple of days and I had trouble getting the tension right....they just didn't look right. Ended up frogging those little buggers. :)

With the right amount of fabric purchased, I start at the top left corner... 3" in and 3" down. I do this because I'm terribly right-handed. My right is on the bottom, my left on top. And I don't want to drag it across previous stitching. So, that's my philosophy for larger projects.

Hi Lisa,
I just realized that past week that if I have a pattern with a lot of PAGES, I will measure from the top down 3 inches and from the top left side of the fabric. Where the two measurements meet is where I bigin my first stitch. The fabric I bought I had added the 3 inches to each side for mounting and framing, that is why I measure in and down from the left corner.
BUT if I have a pattern that I just unfold and is only one page, I start my stitching in the middle of the fabric.
Just out of curiousity, did you choose to do all the blavk stitching on a piece of light fabric or did you decide to stitch this on black fabric?
