needle size
I am using a size 20 needle for this Edinburgh 36 count linen. The needle seems too big. Do I need a smaller needle for this fabric?

I would go with what feels right. If it feels too big to you, then it's probably too big.

Oh my goodness ! You should be using a size #28 on an Edinburough!! even 26 would be the biggest I would go....

Thank you! I tried one stitch and stopped. Guess I'm headed back to the store tomorrow. New to this so the specific advice really helps.

Oh yes! Go with Miss Kitty's suggestion.

28s are very delicate and have a fine eye. Pick up a wire or Lo-Ran needle threader. It's normal to break a couple of 28s during a project, so buy a few spares. 36 ct over 2 makes for very pretty little cross stitches.
