On-going Projects
One of you folks asked me a while back what projects I was working on and I didn't reply--sorry about that. I'm new to this whole chat thing and still trying to figure it out!! I have a couple of complicated ones that I work on most evenings -- Celtic Christmas and a Native American dream Catcher, both by Lavendar and Lace. I like their designs because they are complicated enough to be interesting. I also usually have at least one Christmas ornament in process - just because they are usually simple and quick. When I travel I have a chart/design that's on large count fabric and a simple design so I don't have to worry about concentrating and/or changing thread a lot. By the way, when I travel I carry nail clippers to cut thread so I don't have to worry about stabbing myself - or losing scissors to the baggage police!!

Lol! I checked with the baggage police and the small little scissors we use are perfectly fine to carry on the plane. Just FYI for those of you that travel. I prefer driving. In fact when we retire there's a post on FB that shows a complete circle through the USA!! That would be a fun trip!

That may have been me, q.a. I'm a quilter too, and I think I meant to ask you if you were working on any quilts right now. val

I too am a quilter as well as a cross stitcher. I love both hobbies, but it is easier to take my cross stitching when I go on vacation. I have a project all put together in a plastic project bag and I just grab it when I go. It is just my travel project so it goes back in the cabinet when I get home. When I fly I usually just read a book, because it is less hassle with the "baggage police". Some will let you through with small scissors and some will not so I just pack my project bag in my suitcase.

My projects I work on at home are the larger ones that would be impossible to travel with so just take something small about 8 x 10 inches or so.

Those of you who are quilters have you been to the Houston International Quilt Festival? I went 2 years ago when my son lived in Houston. It was fantastic and I got to meet all my favorite quilt teachers.

As a quilter, I'm not working on anything right now. However I have a couple of cross stitch pieces that I've finished that have a quilt-looking border around them. I'm planning to add a real quilt patch border and then quilt the whole thing and donate to an organization called Quilts for a Cause (they raise money for breast/gyn cancers). I also have a quilt for my niece that I need to finish - started it when she was born and she's now 8. Hopefully I can get it done before she graduates from HS. Mostly I get my quilting done when I take a class. I prefer the x-stitch because it's easier/more comfortable to do while I'm watching TV -- my quilt studio is a separate building across the yard!

Have never been to the Houston show but would love to get there one of these days. Did get to the Glendale Quilt Show in Pasadena in March and took a couple of classes. Enjoyed it immensely.
