DIMENSIONS KITS
Something is very wrong. There is not one person on this chat who has said something nice about Dimensions kits. This afternoon I looked at a couple other sites, including Amazon. There are lots of positive reviews. What are we on this Chit Chat doing wrong. How can so many of us have such negative feelings when others are so positive about Dimensions.

Guess it doesn't really matter. I am not buying any kits in the near future.

The truth is that I have never ran out of floss with a Dimensions kit either and also tend to be very frugal with my thread, but there are plenty of stitchers who have ran out of kit floss. I have seen them posting on this chat and elsewhere regularly. I think it may only take a few mistakes and having to pick out the thread for this to happen. The thread in kits once it is picked out is not as easily re-used like DMC floss since it tends to fray and/or not hold its shape. I feel that it is just a matter of time when I am the stitcher that comes up short with supplies in one of their kits one day. So having said all of this, I feel that any company who wants to continue to sell their products to their target audience should accommodate their customers with good customer service when problems arise. It only takes one bad experience to turn a good customer away forever and send them shopping elsewhere. More than anything else though it is very unfair to the stitcher who has stitched most of the design and cannot get cooperation from the company to provide the only "true" thread match to complete the partially finished design. I think most of us would even be willing to pay for the kit floss separately for a small fee to finish a started project. You would think by now that Dimensions would be willing to sell the additional thread for a small fee since they have been selling needlework kits for many years.

I have done 1 Dimension kit, ran out of 2 colors. Told them what I needed & they sent it quickly with no argument. Maybe they have a limit & I was under it.

I have done a couple of Dimensions kits and haven't run out of thread, although it was very, very close with some colors. I do find that the thread is a lesser quality--more snagging, knotting etc. but the end results are very pretty.

I don't use to many kits.. but

I am just now finishing a birth sampler kit by Dimensions.. after having to rip a mistake, I was concerned about running out of thread.. although I did not run out; I easily charted dimensions floss to dmc, just in case.. (& the matches were the same)

a long time ago on another project, I did run out of floss, contacted Dimensions and rec'd needed product..
now I keep any length of floss that may be usable until I complete the project just in case I run short..

I have only done 1 kit by dimensions. I ran out of 4 colors as I was doing the last 100 stitches, I sent an e-mail to them in february asking to send me the floss that I needed and I haven't heard anything from them. I also sent a follow up e-mail in April to inquire about my order and still have had no word. I did try and substitue with DMC floss but the colors weren't even close. Has anyone else had any problems with getting replacement floss from dimensions?

I seem to remember in the past Dimensions kits ask you to write & send sample of floss, along w/ kit name & number..

maybe they just don't respond to e/m, although in this day & age you think they would..
check info on you kit; let me know what it advises..

good luck
happy stitching

I really don't like kits, never have and never will. I tried to explain a problem to Bugzilla with a small kit of theirs, as the front photo (the reason we buy any project, whether a pattern or a kit) was very different from the design. I might as well have been speaking in runes. They never did get it! Upset only that it said everything I needed to say about a blind Pug that we rescued.
I do have some kits (too many, like everything else), but I know that I have to replace the fabric at the least. I like choosing my own floss and fabric. As for that kit, I guess Boogaloo the Pug will be waiting at The Rainbow Bridge even if her memorial becomes a UFO!
She taught us what "a leap of faith" truly meant. I cannot forget her.

Just how do you send a sample of floss that you have run out of????? Rip it out and send that? No, e-mail should be sufficient. BUT, if it doesn't get a response, I would track down a phone number. Real people usually respond well to good manners....not always, but usually.

The Dimension battering began when one posted they were having trouble....the dam broke! :) Wow. When things get that rabid, that fast, I tend to take things with a grain of salt....and you should, too!
Sometimes, you need to step back and remember where you are. :)

I still think if things at Dimensions are sooooo terrible, why aren't there more poor ratings on this website? We've got a warning system in place....No, not the chat room....the ratings TAB on the product page. Of course when things are good, ratings should be posted, also. And I don't care where you bought a kit, if the brand merits a warning, I want to know! They average those things out for a reason..... :)

I really should sleep in the middle of the night, instead of spouting off about stuff! Good night! :)

I have done over 12 Dimension kits, 3 big and the rest small projects. I like Dimensions and have another big one and a few smaller ones waiting to be stitched. I like Dimensions. I only came out short once, the very first Dimension kit that I did, which was stamped cross stitch baby bibs, over three years ago when I first started stitching. I emailed Dimensions with the kit's name and the color number that I needed. Five weeks later, I received five times more than what I needed. One strand would have been enough. Other than that, I only came close once, on the project that I just finished. I only had 6 inches of the color left.

From reading this chat, I've learned to save all my Dimension threads, just in case. I may be a strange one because I like the Aida material that they supply. It is nice and stiff to my liking. I've had no problems with it. I am careful with their thread, using "Thread Heaven" to prevent tangles and fraying. And I use every strand down to the last few inches. Luckily, I haven't had to do much ripping out of mistakes, but then, I use the Easy Guideline red fishing line to grid my material, which helps me greatly. And I don't mind the time it takes to grid because I do it, little by little, watching TV, and I grid way before I am ready for that next project.

And too, I have done some patterns-only projects, and my only complaint with that is getting all my colors ready and then putting them away when I am done. And I am still searching for a brand of Aida cloth that I really like.

no, you do not have to rip to get sample..
I am sure you do/ can not sew down to the very last inch of floss.. you should know you will be running short..
problem solved.
happy stitching..

p.s. I agree, in this day & age, e/m should do the trick, but it seemingly doesn't....
