Midsummer fairy
Hello, I have recently finished "midsummer fairy" from the Mirabilia collection. Had a lot of fun doing this but I have one comment to make. The beading on this is horrendous! Most of the beads don't pass through the smallest eyed needle I could find, so ended up doing real hand-stitching on it, which of course took ages! Perhaps a message to Mill Hill in regards to the size of beads. At least thirty percent were fine, seventy percent were not at all.
Am now getting ready to start on the next of the many projects.....(far too many hubby is not that happy but ah well, that's a man for you!)

Thiswitch: isn't there a special needle for beading? Long & real thin to line up several beads at a time? Check with craft sites, like Craftsy.com they may have that.

Thanks Marlene, I'll have a look. I have a tiny eyed needle that I can barely see even with the extra eyes! I hope the beading needle isn't any smaller, it might make me think I've gone really blind (lol)

I know what you mean about the teeny tiny eye of the beading needles. I love to put beading on my projects as it gives them some dimension. I use the John James beading needle and it goes through the beads beautifully - if you have the patience to fight the tiny little eye of the needle. I don't understand how they can put people on the space station for a year or more and not be able to design a decent beading needle. The needle itself is very thin so it will pass through the beads but is there a reason they can't make the eye elongated rather than just a tiny little dot. It is very frustrating when you are working on a project that has over a thousand beads. When I made "Celtic Christmas" by Lavender and Lace I thought I would lose my mind. It turned out beautifully so I soon forgot my frustration - until my next beading project. Take care and have a beautiful Memorial Day w/end - I plan to spend mind stitching on my "Lying in Wait" pattern by Kustom Krafts.

Oh, there IS a needing needle with an eye almost the whole length of the needle. A friend has some. I'll try to get the name of the manufacturer!!

Michael's carries a collapsible eyed needle.
Absolutely remarkable! Any bead any time.
Same principle as a needle threader.
In their jewelry area for needles or maybe they call it findings. But definitely jewelry.

Cheryl, I got such a kick out of your post! One of my favorite expressions is...."space shuttles are linking up in orbit and we can't do this???" Anyway, I am taking a break from Celtic Spring. I am all "purpled out" at the moment, although, she is beautiful. I have started Nantucket Rose which will be a picture I will keep for myself. I do have the bead needle from Michael's....haven't used it yet. That will be a whole new experience for me. I am sure it will be "the frosting on the cake" for the picture. Have a great weekend...I am off for a family gathering. Eating.....again.....!!

P.S. Best of luck with Lying in Wait.

Tapestry28 will take 98% of regular Mill Hill beads. For petite size, you need a needle with no eye buldge. Milliners, or straws work. There are beeding needes, somewhat like a long wire loop. There is also a bead reamer to enlarge the hole.

Thank you ladies for all the information. unfortunately I am in New Zealand, so finding some of these things can be a bit difficult so on line addresses for me. Cheryl, loved your post and I agree, so advanced.....yet so not! Good luck ladies with all your current projects.

A big shop like Nordic Needle should have tools you need. Fargo, ND, is the middle of nowhere, so they're used to shipping. ECS ships worldwide, but they're short in "the tools of the trade" dept.
