Storage
How many people prefer bobbins to storage bags. I want to find the most effective and efficient way to store my floss. The storage bins with the bobbins seem like they can take up a lot of space. I have seen people using the storage bags but I did not see any in the stores.

Elerose, everybody seems to have their own opinion about storage. I prefer the storage boxes. i keep the majority of my floss in larger storage bins and mark the top with the numbers of the floss inside, for instance 100 -200, 300's- 400's. etc. i then have smaller boxes that I use for each project. When I am done with that project the floss goes back to the larger boxes. There are somo folks here on the chat that prefer the baggies. I really think it depends on what works best for you.

I think that using the storage boxes uses up the least amount of room. I use them for my bobbins that I never wind a bobbin until I am ready to use that color. I keep my whole skeins in quart baggies.

I have a large collection of flosses that I acquired from gifts, garage sales, etc. I used to keep a small case with bobbins for each project. Therefore, I have many of some colors and little or none of others.

If I could start afresh I would go for the little baggies. That way I would be able to see exactly what I have available. It would make selections easier when I want ignore suggested colors and go for my own choice.

I would definitely not recommend the DMC bow system. It is difficult to keep neat. I spent a lot of money on this system. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it a negative ten. Could have spent that money on more floss instead!!!!

I've seen the baggies at craft stores. You can order them from this site.

I have my DMC floss stored on plastic bobbins. The bobbins are in six plastic cases which are in my roll-around set of drawers that is beside my sewing chair. This system has worked for me for 30 years. Each person has their own system that works for them. I also have 6 smaller boxes that have my excess DMC floss in them. I have all the DMC colors and extra skeins of almost all of them also. Lots of floss at my house. LOL

I'm with syagel and prefer bobbins. I love looking at my boxes when they are all neatly arranged. The colors are so beautiful. Like jewels. Many years ago, a friend and I would get together and stitch occasionally, may times we just ended up looking at the floss and admiring the colors. Or we would neaten the bobbins and boxes. Silly, I know but there are just so many beautiful colors.

Well, the storms are staring up so I'll turn on the TV. My cell phone alert went off already, there must be flash flooding in the area.

Tex, you stay safe, girl! We were down this weekend and the Red totally creeped me out! I have NEVER seen it that high, or fast....a couple of trees and the train trestle AND the bridge would be toast! Looked very close to topping the bridge to me! And the Trinity was just as scarey! Plus tornado warnings at 2 AM! What a trip!

We're having the wettest May ever recorded and that's pretty wet...close to 19" and still not done. I know you guys are having water and weather issues, too! We have some river flooding about 1/4 mile from us and every time it sprinkles, the flood alert pops.

Elerose, I am one of the weirdos that hate even the thought of all that bobbin winding. My floss goes into labeled Ziploc sandwich bags, don't like fighting the smaller bags. Each project's bags goes on a ring. Leftover floss goes in a shallow bin, filed numerically. I only have 2 kinds of floss, DMC and mystery, so that's not an issue....mystery flosses are in labeled bags caught in a gallon-size bag.

I keep a running inventory of all floss, stored and PiP. Not on computer....it's the DMC shopping list with amounts in pencil....i use nothing more complicated than an eraser! :)

And I just ordered the collapsible eye needles...just to stay up with the Joneses! LOL
